As far as packing, I'm about where you are. I'm off work at 3 today so I'll do all the things this evening.

no not kidding. i have packed a couple of floaties and rope. Piney was talking about doing this last year so hopefully she's bringing something. Although the water may be a little cold and we might have to warm our blood up with alcohol first...

Hopefully tomorrow between 2 and 4. I'll look for a floatie or 2. And an umbrella to keep the sun off.

I waded in the lake last time I was there. It was cool enough that I chose not to try swimming -- and I'm very fond of swimming. Rafting sounds like a good idea, though.

Next year....if all goes well, I'll be moving to Reno in Nov. and a lot closer in. Not to mention not dealing with all the crap that comes with agreeing to sell your house and move...

Just got home from The Hof Party! It was great seeing everyone again and the weather couldn't have been better. Bowman Lake could stand to be about 10 degrees (or even 15) warmer, but what the hell. It was a lousy place for a diet, that's for damn sure. And sobriety pretty much was left in the dust as well.

WHEEEEEEEE! slothy shade listener back from the Hof. Some fishing but no catching, this time. Thanks to all the wonderful people who make it so fun! Thanks to ygmir for offering such a paradise and for all the work he's done to make it a top flight campground also. Thanks for indulging my musical preferences, and don't ever be afraid to offer some of your own. Testing new playa gear in a clean camping environment is a treat. All the food was lovely as ever, Piney's baked peaches and toasted marshmallows were my favorite. Doc's wood fired oven pizza was a great success.

I'll have a day to recuperate at Elorrum's, then it's back to AZ, to get ready for the end of August, which is creeping up on us faster by the day.

Bowman Lake was slightly nippy, yes, at 59 1/2 degrees Fahrenheit, measured 60 feet out from the shore.
Of course, it was a balmy 60 F if you swam within 6 inches of the shore.
I may not have a cell phone, but by golly I have a pool thermometer.

Next year I just might organize some sort of swimming challenge.

I forgot to mention on my way out, less than a mile after the road becomes paved again, I came across a brown bear lumbering down the road. I slowed and grabbed my phone to take a picture of it but by the time I had it out he had jumped into the bushes off to the right and disappeared. So yes, there absolutely are bears out there.

i ran over a mailbox still in cardboard as i tried to exit. among other missteps...like spraying myself with bugspray when i thought it was sunblock. good times.
