I will bring a decent camera....the lake should be stellar in the clear air.

Sorry, no room in the Subie for the poofer. Got a few glowies tho.

Me too. I want to go, but not sure if I have the time or $$ for gas since it is the weekend before High Sierra music fest, which I leave for on Tuesday night. Of course the Hof is on the way, but therein lies the time factor.

A week and a half ago we were camping about 20 minutes from the Hof (didn't know it at the time). On the way into camp we spotted a momma bear and her cub. What is the bear situation at the Hof?

this.

and yes, there are bears in general. I've not experienced them directly at the Hof, but certainly in the surrounding miles. Food is always an attractant, so, can't say "never". I guess in the wilds you just takes yer chances.

I'm getting really excited about this. I tried to explain it to my bosses and coworkers and gave up. "I'm going camping". I plan to slather bacon grease all over my self and put a sign on my tent that says Bear Bait. (Or cower in the hof biting my nails all night.) This will be a fine outing.

Unlike Down Under where everything, including plants, are out to kill you, the bears here normally want nothing to do with humans. They just want food so be sure to store it away when away from camp. With all the people at the Hof it is extremely, extremely doubtful that any will come around. Just make a lot of noise and they go away. But I've heard a rumor that a couple of the infamous "Drop Bears" from Australia have been spotted lately near the Hof. Stay out from under the trees :-)

Hi Ratty,

It sounds like a fun weekend, I hope you enjoy yourself!

No need for GPS or a smart phone. On your computer, copy and paste the coordinates from the original post into google maps:
hof:
39°27'8.03"N
120°39'11.54"W

Then get directions from your location. I've never been to that exact location, but I've been back on those roads though. The route it gave me looks spot on! I'm sure others will chime in too...

I did that thanks. Now I'm only slightly worried about finding the driveway for the last couple miles of the trip. Yeah Jay Bob Boy. Why not come? I haven't packed a thing but I'll pull it all together before tomorrow morning. Jay Bob. Need any bikes this year. I have 2 more. (Well one and a half actually.) How about small tables or large tents? Looking for my sleeping bag was like going through someone else's storage unit. Where did all this crap come from.

Minor chance of plans. Definitely coming up Saturday. Traveling light - just food, beer and chairs. Not staying over night.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful invite but my brother and I are gonna get our "hippie" on this weekend at the Dead shows!

This is going to be one of my off years for BM. Family plans and a potential move to Boise, ID are keeping me away. Ratty, thank you for being so kind. I will mention your offerings to my camp mates that are planning another great camp this year.

No worries...I won't wander too far off!

And to think, I'm one of the people who lives the closest to The Hof and I can't be there. Right now I'm sitting in the Travelodge in Elko, NV drinking a beer. Life is grand.

I don't have a GPS and I don't think you get much in the way of smartphone coverage. I think you can drop the GPS coords into a map program and it'll find it, then click a few buttons and it'll give you a printable set of directions. For good measure I'll also print a map that shows the GPS point I'm heading too and back on over to the interstate.

I had hoped that we'd be on the road by now, but my sweetie's workday went bonkers and she's still actually at work. My day's been crazy too, but I'm getting my arms around it.

what a grand time!!
thanks Fishy, for the schwag!!

and thanks, sincerely, for all who came and made that effort.
parts of the road were treacherous, Robbidobbs, Patsh, and I tried to throw rocks and fix the road in a spot......it lasted long enough for Robbidobbs to get across, and then some hippie spun all the rocks out.........and down it went..so those who made it, really worked to get there!!
The food was so good, OMD! I was cooking, so could not take photos, but I hope someone can post a few.
