Seeking info re: DPW going to Houston for Relief Efforts

Post by Kiki in the Club » Tue Sep 06, 2005 12:11 am

Like many burners, I was shocked to hear about the tragedy on the gulf coast while on the playa. I live in SF now, but was born and raised in South Louisiana. My beloved Home is in trouble.

As I was leaving the playa on Sunday, I got word that some of the DPW volunteers were packing up & going to Houston to build a temporary city there. If anyone knows how to do just that, on a limited budget and timeline, it's them.

I would like to connect volunteers and donations with these efforts. If you have any information on supporting the Burning Man Katrina Relief Efforts, please respond to this posting. I heard there was a meeting on the playa on Saturday, but I didn't hear about it until Saturday night.

Thank you so much to all those who have shown optimism, strength, and kindness.

BM Workers Needed for "Temple to Temple" Crew in B

Post by xtine2 » Sun Sep 25, 2005 11:40 am

Dear Fellow Burners -

The Burning Man staff want to hear about any Burner-related Katrina relief efforts nationwide.

Currently, a Yahoo Group has been created for this purpose.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BM_Katrina

The Burning Man “Temple to Temple” crew are already in Biloxi, MS

Matt Lindsay (a heavy equipment wrangler for David Best's Temple crew since 2000) and friends are in Biloxi, MS with several tons of heavy equipment and nine generators.

They have set up shop in the leveled Chau Van Duc Buddhist Temple in east Biloxi, as well as having established a 24-hour free supermarket in a 44-foot dome donated by Pacific Domes http://www.pacificdomes.com, in an effort to aid the neglected Vietnamese community still living there.

CURRENT NEEDS:

*WORKERS! to come help CLEAR DEBRIS and to help get the community back together.
*MONEY for GAS to run their GENERATORS, and buy more DOMES to house people in!

For more information, contact Shelly Lindsay at 541-482-7288.

You can also contact the Burning Man Staff directly at [email protected]

There is also a mailing list which will provide periodic updates...
