Tahoe/Reno Event ideas

Post by ScottFree » Sun Sep 11, 2005 11:04 am

After my first Burn I just can't let it rest. I need to keep pushin' the good vibe and am forming a plan for a Burner Event here in Truckee.

Here is the plan so far.

Disc Golf Burnament at the Truckee Disc Golf Course.

Admission fee to the Burnament will be a backpack filled with goodies for people stranded in shelters because of Katrina, and a small amount $5 or so for shipping.

My brother works in a Radio Station in the area and he said the big needs at this point are toiletries, i.e. soap, toothpaste, towels, washcloths, shaving items, etc. Also kids games, books, etc. To help keep the young ones occupied in the shelters. He can also help to make sure our gifts make it to the right hands and has local contacts so we can get more specifics on what is needed most.

We have done other fundraisers for the local schools in town and the local business' are good about donating to a good cause so we will have some prizes for the Burnament.

The Disc golf course is at the regional park, there is softball, basketball and an amphitheatre, so the posibility exists for other activites, barbecue, maybe even some live music.

There are also many places to camp and lots of local lodging that is near the site.

I'll be checking w/ Parks and Rec here to see about dates/availablity and will post here when things firm up a bit. Right now I'm just looking to see if a) Any burners are interested in participating in such an event and b) Any ideas contributions, or offers of help to pull this off.

We're looking to get something together within the next 30 days as it will start getting cold here soon.
