Any LA area Burners seeking a theme camp?

Post by bigbluedoggy » Thu Feb 07, 2008 4:50 pm

Hi there,
If you are in the Los Angeles area and thinking you might want to be a part of a friendly little theme camp this year, please allow me to present you with an idea.

Destiny Lounge is a 20-25 person camp located near 3:00 plaza (in 2007). We create a comfortable, shaded environment with futons, sofas, carpeting, DJ music, and icy lemonade and ice tea every afternoon and evening. We also bring our new game (2007) the Fling of Destiny to entertain the masses. For 2008, we are adding a live music element in the form of a small piano lounge/stage, open for improv players or groups. Besides the piano, we are likely to have a small drumset, some mics, and modest amplification for other players to come and sit in and have some nice jam sessions on a random basis. We will probably schedule a few jams in the WWW guide but that is as yet TBD. We are also planning on adding a second large scale game to our camp which is still in the Top Secret development stages.

While we had our full complement of 25 friends in 2007, I already know that a number of those friends are taking a pass this year for various reasons. This leaves our roster with a little space and I am hoping to attract a couple or few new people to our camp who share our enthusiasm and commitment to pulling off the sort of thing we do. Joining our group is not without a cost, as we will be charging a member fee to offset expenses we incur for construction, supplies, trucks, fuel... etc.. If the idea of spending a little cash to create something cool does not scare you off and you have any interest in meeting some of us to check out the vibe, drop me a note and let's get together and chat!

Our camp has people ranging from 17 to 60+, mostly straight, some sober (but mostly not), some couples and some singles... in other words, an eclectic mix of folks. Most of us work in various aspects of the entertainment industry. We plan on getting started earlier this year on construction so that all of August is not a flurry of building activity as it was last year. Getting ready for the playa is frantic enough without trying to build the Taj Mahal in 3 weeks. It was fun, but I was sooo tired... lol

If you are looking for an over the top, hard partying crowd, we are probably not the right group for you. We're a fun group with lots of energy, but we tend to be a bit more sedate and low key, and we are definitely seeking a drama free environment. Not that we don't like to party, but all things within reason! We require a commitment to camp maintenance and teardown on Sunday as part of the deal. And ten of us will be there on Saturday morning with early arrivals to make things ready for everyone else! Our camp was a wonderful home on the playa and we had great crowds at all sorts of odd hours. Here's a link to the camp webpage: http://destinylounge.outtatheway.com/DestinyLounge We'd love to have a few more people with unbridled enthusiasm and energy who value creating something spectacular for others, just because you want to. That's what it's all about isn't it? Thanks!!!

A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!
