4th of Julplaya

Post by oneeyeddick » Thu Jun 25, 2009 7:54 pm

This will be my first year going, with my being a new resident to Reno and all that.

It looks like the Playa had dried out enough for it to be safe for all vehicles.

Have you gone before ?

got any suggestions ?

Steal a chair from the local highschool.

Cut a large hole in the seat.

Attach a toilet seat to chair such that you can utilize the fresh cut hole in the seat.

Purchase an orange bucket at home depot.

Line the bucket with two bags.

Add two scoops of kitty litter to bag in bucket.

Put bucket under the chair.

Bring the most luxurious two ply toilet paper.

Have the best morning glory of your life in the early breeze on the open Playa.

Why would I want to bother with all that when I have an RV ?

Juplaya is on the BLM's radar, to what extent I don't know, but keep an eye out.

in general, what does that indicate?
is it due to the number of people? Do they have a cut off before they require a permit or whatever?........

Thanks M, I always have one eye out.

They are prolly watching for people using campfires without a contained and raised firepit, I think you are supposed to have one.

Fireworks are OK in Pershing county, so I don't know what else it could be, except for lack of a permit for too large of a group.
They do have stipulations for that.

A couple years ago, I picked up a piece of MOOP on the playa (not during Burning Man). It was a BLM memo suggesting Juplaya was reaching permitable size. i have no idea if action is or was being taken, but I think not. Just good to be wary.

Isn't there a fee for camping on BLM land? An honor system? I'll have to look that up.

There is no fee for camping out, you are supposed to purchase a permit for an event if there are 30(?) people, I think.
Don't quote me on that number, but I saw something about it when I was dicking around on thier website last month.

There is no organized event for the 4th of July. However, it is Independence day and it would be nice to hook up with others for a little drum circle or some other manner to celebrate our day of independence, independantly of any organization.

That's the whole point, the 4th of July is a holiday and I have always viewed it as an "event" in my life....it has always been my favorite day of the year.
With Pershing county being legal for fireworks,
and the playa being just about the safest place in the world to set them off,
it's a great setup for an impronmptu event,
orginazion is not always necessary for it to be called an event.
And just because burning Man doesn't have thier claws in it yet,
doesn't make it any less burnier.
4th of Juplaya has always been around, before Burningman in fact,
just not "termed" as such, but it has gotten more populated since Burning Man started happening in the Black Rock Desert, for obvious reasons.
Been a pyro all my life, had the first run-in with Johhny law and the nice fireman when I was 5 years old,
and I can't wait for next weekend to get here !!
whoot !!

Okie dokie, 4th of Julplaya was a blast !!

There were prolly over 100 people just at the frogponds , and several hundred on the Playa.

Even though I didn't leave the Frogponds till Sunday, there was the Flaming Lotus Girls and thier stuff, Rangers, Lamplighters, and several other themecamps whose names I recognized.

On Saturday at the junkyard by the frogponds, Otto Von Danger had a shooting line of the bunch of us blow up the Frogbat with various assorted weapons at dusk.

here is a video of the shootout I posted on Youtube
