Reno-Tahoe Airport Pre-playa party

Post by AntiM » Tue Jul 14, 2009 9:45 pm

Reno-Tahoe International Airport will host a Pre-Playa Party - YOU are
invited to participate

The Airport Authority is hosting a celebration event of the
partnership between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Burning Man
on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 between 5:00 pm and 7:00 PM, the Reno-
Tahoe International Airport will host a Pre-Playa Party in celebration
of the thousands of air travelers this event brings to the region. The
event will be held in the Connector Collections Art Gallery, but begin
outside in the front terminal.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority is looking forward to partnering with
Burning Man this year to celebrate the event and its positive impact
on the Reno community.

Tentative agenda:

• Burning Man Art Cars parked outside the main terminal.
• Guests and performers gather outside, near the cars; then begin a
fun parade of Burners and performers leading through the terminal and
up to the second floor of the airport to the Connector Collections
Gallery. This could be as simple as kazoo's, drums,

• Attendees would be encouraged to dress in costume
• At the gallery, there would be music (provided by Steve Bollinger
and others).
• The short ceremony would kick-off with a dance performance or two
(for example, the Fire Dancers, using glow sticks).
• Krys Bart, the President/CEO of the Airport Authority will welcome
everyone from the podium. She would briefly discuss the positive
impact Burning Man has on the airport and actions the airport staff
takes to make travel easier for attendees going to and from the playa.
• Following would be a speaker or two from the Burning Man
organization and BRAF - this will probably be me.
• It’s possible that the City of Reno Mayor and/or the Reno-Sparks
Convention and Visitors Authority may want to also say a short welcome.
• We could then have another fun performance, perhaps something to
engage the crowd a little.
• Then wrap up with refreshments, more music and mingling as we enjoy
the artwork.

We are open to your suggestions regarding music, performers, any
ideas you have to make the event fun. (Except, unfortunately, no
fire.) IF IF IF you are interested participating in this event please

MORE INFORMATION

Background:
Last year’s Burning Man Festival brought 15,000 attendees through the
airport and it is 2nd largest annual event to impact air travel at
Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Last year the airport coordinated
with Burning Man staff to set up a welcome table in Baggage Claim.
There was such an incredible response that we are hosting an
information/welcome table again this year. According to a Sign In book
that was at the table in 2008, Burning Man gave true meaning to the
word “Internationalâ€

Hey the exhibit is quite good. Take a moment on August 5th or when you're traveling to the playa.

I saw it when OED dropped me off at the airport after the 4th of Juplaya. It got my engines going for the burn. Excellent presentation.

And thanks to the Reno folk, like OED and Legs, who are there for burners all year round!

Well, I guess they would until they told me to move it.

Maybe if I put some wings on it they would think it's a dragon ?

Well, they are asking for it. It only seems right to give the people what they are asking for.
