Please Welcome Your New Washington, D.C. Regional Contacts!

Post by ArmadilloPuttanesca » Mon Jan 18, 2010 11:28 am

This was sent out on the announce list on Friday! Thanks for everyone's feedback to Burning Man HQ, more from the four of us soon!

Greetings and Happy Friday, Balt-Wash Burners!

It is with great pleasure that I write you today to introduce your new
team of co-Regional Contacts for Washington, DC. Please welcome Mark

Borden a.k.a. Booger, Armadillo, Tom Martin a.k.a. TomCat, and Darrell Duane a.k.a. Progress. Congratulations! You can get
in contact with these four RCs via [email protected].

After reviewing all of your community feedback, conducting interviews
with each candidate, and much deliberation, the Regionals Committee has
decided that each of these four leaders brings something unique to the
table. We feel that in a community with such a diversity of interests,
activities, and perspectives such as Washington, D.C., a team of
Regional Contacts working together have the capacity to make a truly
meaningful impact. Through witnessing other Burning Man communities
across the world grow, our experience has taught us that bringing
together Regional Contact teams with a range of different social
demographics, personality characteristics, experiences, strengths and
talents, and even communication styles serves to enhance their
effectiveness and impact. We're excited to see what the future holds for
this co-RC team and for how all of you will continue to contribute to
the growth of a thriving Burning Man community in the D.C. and Baltimore
region.

These four Washington, D.C. Regional Contacts will work with Brian Shaw
aka Bink and Ben Sarsgard in Baltimore to jointly administrate the
Balt-Wash announce list. Please note that Bink is now receiving emails
to [email protected] instead of to [email protected] as
he is, along with Ben, officially a co-Regional Contact for Baltimore.

As we work to help provide tools and guidance to assist this new team in
their role, we are counting on you all to support this team by helping
them to deepen their connections to one another and to all of you. We
urge you to reach out to these new Regional Contacts and say hello and
get to know them better. We also strongly encourage you to keep in
contact with us via [email protected] and let us know how things
are going in D.C. and Baltimore. We're looking forward to seeing how the
D.C. community evolves in 2010 and beyond.

Happy New Year!

Dustily Yours,
Meghan "Megs" Rutigliano and the Regionals Committee

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Letter of acceptance to DC Burners…..

Post by ArmadilloPuttanesca » Fri Feb 12, 2010 11:04 am

All:

Armadillo, Booger, Progress, and TomCat want to thank you for the opportunity to be the Washington DC area Regional Coordinators for Burning Man!

What do the RC’s do? Well, we maintain the Balt/Wash Announce and DC Burner lists, the official Burningman regional web pages and websites, and facilitate communication between the DC area and Burningman. We also act as an official contact point for newbies and local media to introduce them Burning Man, our Community, the Ten Principles, etc.

The 4 of us collectively and individually have a lot of ideas, both grand and small. Our short list is: More Art! From DC to the Playa; more public art installed in DC from our community; a DC container like they do it in NY and Boston; a tool lending library. We want to provide more insight into Burning Man decision-making, better communication between the DC Region and Burning Man, and more opportunities for people to do cool stuff.

More importantly, we want to hear from you! What do YOU want? What does the burner community want to achieve? What can we do to enrich ourselves, and the larger community that is beyond our little fishpond we call the DC burner ‘culture’?

You can reach us at [email protected]

Signed,

Armadillo, Booger, Progress, TomCat

Armadillo Puttanesca was living quietly as a short, fat, middle-aged suburban housewife in Oakland, CA. Her life changed suddenly when she attended SantaCon in 2002. She attended her first Burning Man in 2003, where she brought too many clothes. She has attended Burning Man every year since then, along with a few Regional Burns (Flipside, Playa del Fuego and Transformus). Besides being the least fashionable of the 4 Washington DC RC's, she is also the Burning Man Wedding Coordinator. In her spare time, Armadillo likes to rearrange the objects d'art on her mantle piece. She is unable to parallel park.

Booger: This old fart has been going to Burning Man (with 2 off years) since 1998 and has been involved with Playa del Fuego since way back when it used to be held on Assateague Island. Booger is a quiet, introspective person who seeks a peaceful unity with all life energy and can be found at Burning Man in only most serene of environments. His favorite color is pink sparkles and his favorite odor is patchouli.

Progress: After selling his ticket in 1999 'cos he didn't know enough about the event to actually go, Progress finally made it to the playa in 2004 and hasn't ceased going. Progress is always happy when he hears from someone that finding out about Burning Man has totally changed their life, and he continues sharing stories about the culture and energy of BRC and related spaces.

TomCat first went to Burning Man in 2005. He is a Black Rock City Ranger, part of the Intercept Bike Cabal. On Playa, he can be found at the Secret BikeCave. In DC he designs bikes and collaborates on Art, making Science happen, with Love.
