Socal Desert Events?

Post by flickz » Fri Sep 27, 2013 1:37 pm

Hi, this summer I've really gotten into raves, zen, and lots of other cool burning man-type stuff :). The only problem is, burning man is so far away! I've heard about desert parties in the meantime, but I don't know of the details for any specific ones. Any help? Thanks :)

Welcome to the board.

If Nevada seems too far away for you, even by plane--trust that instinct. :) It's the distance Google Maps says it is (not counting stops) plus an hour or two for traffic along the way, plus an average of 3-5 hours to get into the event . . . and 5-6+ hours to get out. (Two-lane highway). Nothing wrong with knowing your physical or emotional limitations.

I suggest you visit the main Burning Man site and click on "Regionals" at the top right in small print and add yourself to the regional mailing list of any region you find to be acceptably close. There are tons of events in California.

If you're on Facebook, search by region or city + the word "Burners" or "Burning Man" and you'll see additional groups to join.

I believe my local elementary school has a cake raffle coming up.

Or did I read that wrong?

Welcome to eplaya, flickz!

You're in luck - the San Diego decompression is just around the corner in mid-October and tickets haven't sold out just yet. The event website is a bit sparse but it has the vital information: YOUtopia. There's also an active BookFace page.

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

I read "Burning Man is so far away" as meaning far away in time, as in almost a year away from now.
Did you mean distance? It's not that far and totally worth the trip!

LA burnal equinox was really fun, and they'll hopefully have one again in 2014. It was out in Joshua Tree. Yeah, San Diego decompression is right around the corner too and looks like it's going to be fun!

This site is specific to Burning Man, with some additional coverage for the Burning Man regional groups. Use the link in my signature to check out the regional network and connect with the group(s) that work for you geographically, a number of them have campouts and burns throughout the year.
