burnal equinox in Gerlach
Last year some eplayans went to Gerlach around the burnal equinox. Is anyone planning on doing this again?

By my calendar equinox is March 20 or September 23, 2014. Are we talking about the March date?ranger magnum wrote:Last year some eplayans went to Gerlach around the burnal equinox. Is anyone planning on doing this again?

Man oh man. If I had the money I'd be there. Sounds like a heck of a party.

Ah, "Burnal Equinox" is 6 months from the Saturday before Labor Day, or halfway through the year that begins with the burn.GreyCoyote wrote:By my calendar equinox is March 20 or September 23, 2014. Ranger Magnum, perhaps you are thinking of the train trip to Reno that Dr. Pyro organizes. Last year, some of them drove out to the Playa. I believe it is very soon now. Look for a thread called "Amtrack-something.

So I'm thinking it's sorta more along the lines of a Burnal Equitorch?theCryptofishist wrote:Ah, "Burnal Equinox" is 6 months from the Saturday before Labor Day, or halfway through the year that begins with the burn.GreyCoyote wrote:By my calendar equinox is March 20 or September 23, 2014. .
Surely, somebody will bring up horses any moment now.
Even worse... wasn't there a studio in Sacramento called Horse-Cow?
I'll hush now.

Re: burnal equinox in Gerlach
No Elliot, not the trip Dr. Pyro is planning. Im aware of that one.
This may have been 2 years ago now that I think about it. I remember that the group took a photo in front of the water tower, and posted it up here. I believe it was snowing too.
Anyway, I've always wanted to explore Gerlach and the surrounding area. Maybe even camp out a night on the Playa if the weather and surface condition permit.
I suppose it doesn't have to be on the equinox; I just liked the idea of it, and if others were going it might be nice to meet up.

Re: burnal equinox in Gerlach
A whole bunch of people go out on Playa around 4th of July. "4th of JuPlaya", I think they call it. Could that be what you are thinking about?
There have been many pictures from Gerlach, taken by the BM web cam. When the AMTRAK group was there last year, even I -- computer illiterate that I am -- snatched pictures off the web cam and posted them here. So I'm guessing that gets done somewhat regularly.
Wish I could narrow this down better for you.

Re: burnal equinox in Gerlach
I think it was the train trip/ Amtrackathon. we posed in front of the water tower in Gerlach, and drove to the playa, and came back to Brunos. IIRC, the photos were pretty much posted real time.
We are having a Burnal equinox here in Grass Valley, on Mar.1. Sanctioned BM event.

Good point -- although I have seen snow on Donner Pass in June.lucky420 wrote:If it was snowing it wasn't fourth of juplaya...
Last year's AMTRAKathon, there was fading snow on the ground in Gerlach, that I remember. EDIT Don't think I still have the pictures. I do! Stand by.

I believe the sign said "finish". I didn't go up to gerlach as I had family obligations that day.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: burnal equinox in Gerlach
I think it was Elloriums "Finish" sign.

Re: burnal equinox in Gerlach
I think a picture of Ygmir holding a sign that said "Finnish" would have been hysterical.

Re: burnal equinox in Gerlach
That's the one! So it was the Amtrak trip...
If anyone on this years trip is heading to Gerlach, let me know. I plan on going up that way, and since my schedule is open, I'd like to do it when others are there.

You had mentioned your heritage in another thread once, which is why I was giggling at the thought of you holding a "Finnish" sign.ygmir wrote: I happen to be Dane..........not many Finn Vikings, though I do love the place and had a great time there...........just ask Väinämöinen.
