Regionals on a lake/ocean

Postby Casanova » Thu Jul 17, 2014 12:10 pm

Has there been an official Burning Man Regional held on water, like instead of RV's people have house boats, they have Art Boats instead of Art Cars, and theme camps on the water or on the shore, kinda bringing it back to the first Burn at Baker Beach, just move more toward the water instead of land. If not do you think this would be practical?

Most people don't own boats of houseboats, and renting them, including transport, would be very expensive. I love the idea, but it would not be financially feasible for many. Most folks can access a car or bus and find a tent.

But yeah, WaterWorldMan has a lot of potential. All we got was Floating World, which was still cool.

There's not an official one, but there is one - except they build their own boats. Can't remember the name of it, but it was just held a few weeks ago.

Anyone else know the name?..

Most people don't own Art Cars or RV's either, there would be regular campers just like at burning man at WaterWorldMan

Freezerburn is held on a river, however it's not large enough for powerboats. We could have an art floaty, or art barge.. but we'd have to anchor it down. Nobody did this last year.. perhaps this is something I will try for next years event. That would be neat-o.

Burn in the forest is situated in Squamish along a large slow flowing river.. perhaps that would be another epic regional. Me thinks me gonna try that one next year too.

That'd be cool to have something like that at lake Tahoe for those of us in the Carson City/Reno area, although I doubt the TRPA would go for it.

I've heard of one in the Sacramento River delta, tons of boats converge, big one tie up to eachother and others come and go, so it's actually floating. Never been, but have heard from more than one source.

I saw pictures from that, but I seem to remember they did it only once.

Too cool not to post, even though not a Burner event.

At Transformus last year, someone died while swimming in one of the lakes.

Gratitude Migration looks awesome and allows boats. It even has an FAQ: http://www.migratewith.us/faqs/boat-faq I missed the cheaper tickets but would love to go.

LoF surrounds a small lake but unfortunately the lake isn't really utilized as part of the event much.

I know, I know, we make the event & I'm missing an opportunity to do exactly what I'm complaining about. I'm not going this year but I do want to do something with the water next year.

Very well organized & they really pull off a great event. I'd have to say the lake is a really nice contrast to the Playa. It has grown a lot the last few years & LoF is now experiencing the same ticketing problems as Burning Man. A testament to their success no doubt.
