AMTRAKATHON 2016 Is Almost Here!

"Oh no, not again!" I hear you cry. Yes, for those of you who still have some brain cells left from last year's slide into bacchanalian excess and debauchery we again are getting ready for AMTRAKATHON 2016! We will be leaving the Roseville Amtrak station on January 30, 2016 at 11:35 a.m. and getting into Reno at 4:00 p.m. For those of you who cannot make the train but want to meet up for the burner party in Reno which will be totally "off the rails", meet up beginning at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th floor of the Regency Tower at the not-particularly-luxurious Sands Regency. Ygmir is looking to take down all of the luxury suites for the party (first come, first served) and the hot tub and sauna are open until 9:00. If you'd like an invitation for the train trip itself (includes roundtrip transportation, all the champagne and beer you want, catered lunch, and room at The Sands) PM me and I'll get one off to you right away. We can only take the first 60 revelers so act fast! Anyone who has ever done this in the past will tell you it is one helluva party.

OMD! if the brain surgeons I just talked to on the phone are any indication, it may be best for people to reserve their rooms individually.
I hope to know more, when the person I hope to speak with calls back.
I so hope they can....oh, no need to make disparaging remarks.........I hope they can be of better comprehension and help.

the train gets in and everyone gets checked in and eats, then starts to meander up to the suites some of us rent.
staying as long as you want, then goes to bed, meets for breakfast and or a trip out to the playa and back.

you can make it your own, Fishy.
only issue in Reno I'd see is an accessible auto to take you out to the empty, cold and or wet/frozen playa and back.

Check the Sands web site for suite rates......they are pretty reasonable, really. IIRC, around 100 bucks nice top floor view and all.

Yggy, I looked into flying, but crossed that off.
Train would be really cool, but I doubt it'd be very direct... or cheap.
Bus is a thought... but also probably not very direct.

I'll ask around here if anyone else might want to make a road trip. That really could be FUN!
And, I'll do some research on train and bus.

in general? no. for some, yes, for some too short. but I think as far as holiday, no.

Well, after chatting with Ygmir, I am in! I will fly out to Reno and back, no freakin' trains for me. Amtrak doesn't have a very good "track record" back East here, seems to run off the tracks regularly. This should be fun. First-timer here, this should be fun.
