Non - Perishable Taco Fillers

Post by pacerpilot » Wed May 06, 2015 2:00 pm

At the dollar store in Simi Valley I found a whole shelf of these. Add some salsa and cheese and you have a meal on the go. Time to stock up

Oh wait, I meant Easy Cheese. I think they have bacon flavor too.

You're welcome to eat as well, or as poorly, as you like. :)

I've tried the 99 cent taco filling. It definitely doesn't taste like real meat. More like the fake stuff they put in tacs at places like Jack in the Box. Throw some salsa and whatever else and it's decent.

The original image is gone so who knows what it was. But I've used the canned Loma Linda Vege-Burger on the playa, and it turns into ground taco "meat" very nicely. I'm not vegetarian but it was pretty satisfying.

I've also tried the canned roast beef as FIGJAM recommends, but it's not very appetizing when you open it to find shreds of limp meat coated in congealed fat. The canned chicken breast chunks are MUCH better, you could make some nice tacos from that too.

I've never seen what you saw when you opened that can.

Just cubes of beef in gravy.

I wonder if it was the brand? :?

I bought some canned tamales a while back that were good. Just warm up the can and you can eat them straight out of it.

I picked up some of the canned chicken breast and will be experimenting with it. I'm going to be on playa longer than ever this year so am really looking to shelf stable foods.

Shelf stable pre cooked bacon, pepperoni, salami and other italian cured meats, canned dolmas, etc.
