Heads up on Arctica Price Changes on 6pack Purchases.

Post by SLOKnightfall » Tue Jul 21, 2015 6:13 pm

So I just heard via my camp that Arctica is no longer offering the 6 pack for $15 discount any more. Now its the full price of $3 a bag or $18 for the six pack. While I haven't seen an official statement about it, the http://arctica.burningman.org/ page does show ice prices that reflect the new price.

Still a good deal for ice in the desert!

Yep, just tip the two bucks and call it twenty

True it is indeed a great deal. I just figured I'd spread the word so people would not get on the playa and be short because of the old prices. I know with our camp we'd do a bulk run and give the free bag to the bar so they would be stocked with out having to get someone to fuss cash for it.

I'll probably do that but with the old prices I'd usually tip the fiver and call it a twenty. :)

considering this is the first price increase I have ever heard of - it's still a good deal. I mostly buy blocks, but I know bars like the crushed.

Hey! Newbies! Want a great way to engage the local suburb?

Pick up a 6 pack of ice, wagon it around, and offer it up to strangers. You're gonna make it back to camp, barely, probably drunk. It's a great way to get to know your block!

I also just drop a 20 on them and let them keep the change. I'm weird, I know it's a part of the process but I don't like engaging in commerce. I just quickly drop the 20 and run.

Last year we came back to find a bag and a half had mysteriously appeared in our cooler. After getting over the initial shock that someone was rooting around in our food (they weren't) it was a nice surprise. The next day, we ended up with extra ice, so I did the same to our neighbors next to us who never seemed to be there. This back and forth ice giving went on all week, yet to this day we aren't sure exactly who was gifting their ice to us. It remains one of my favorite, soul-filling mysteries to this day.

Our first year, we had a couple show up in the middle of the night mid-week and stake their tent so that it was literally touching ours. We woke up to find them yakking about the people (us) who stole their spot. Never mind that we asked the people in the camp when we got their if this spot was taken, and they said no. Anyway, we got up, they gave us some dirty looks, we needed ice so I hooked up the kid trailer to the bike (how great are kid trailers at BRC!?), and got a bunch of ice. Too much ice, in fact, so I offered a bag to those tent touchers, and they immediately turned off their hipster vibe and we were totally friendly the rest of the week.

In short: ice is king!
