Hookah on the playa. Have anyone done that?

We are planning last minute on preparing and giving away personal hookahs on playa/camp. Have anyone done that? Do you have any tips on not being searched by cops all the time? We generally want people to enjoy a nice hookah. We've purchased a lot of high quality tobacco and will make those on oranges and grapefruits.

I have done my own personal hookah (it travels and has never touched anything illegal). Not bringing it this year though. There's also camps dedicated to hookah.

I would just be smart about it. Don't let them be used for anything illegal. Don't keep anything illegal in camp. There are so many other easy people for the cops to hassle that you'll be okay.

Did you have to obtain any permits? Do you know if one can do it on deep playa?

Don't drop the ashes, and sure, you can do it on deep playa. Smoked a hookah around one of the burns awhile back and when the LEO made a sweep they were offered a puff. The cops were suspicious, but slightly taken aback in a n amused way, sniffed, and moved on to bust everyone smoking weed. The impression was that being open and inviting to the cops made them less suspicious, more humble almost.

It was an interesting human dynamic; The police making the rounds, focusing interest on various groups and approaching. Getting near the hookah circle, they were invited in. I felt that when the Law Enforcement were invited to partake of the hookah, they stepped back, they didn't want to find out it was anything illegal. On a human level they did not want to punish people who were inviting and open. Other circles of people were smoking or talking or whatever and the LEO would lean in and scope out the scene, with the hope to "catch", while with the hookah circle they hesitated and didn't really lean in to investigate and confirm what exactly was in the bowl. Some of the attention from LEO is going to be due to if they think you are doing something secretive or illegal. Don't act like you are.

My question is: Do I have to have any kind of permit or tell anyone in advance in order to GIVE AWAY A BUNCH of hookahs to random people?

Nope. You don't need a permit to gift anything except food.

We are thinking of bringing our own hookah to use in our own camp, and to invite passers by to join us. Legal shisha only. We have heard there may be issues being seen. Should we be concerned? We are not affiliated with any organized camp

Hookah story........This is me in my See's Candy outfit. I like to go out late at night to the quiet camps on the outer streets and do 'random candy deliveries'. I often follow the sound of voices to find groups off the street. Well, when I finally figured out how to get into this big dome there were 4 or 6 people laying around on giant pillows. The lighting, smells and music were perfect. The perfect stoner movie. Nobody moved more than a few inches. No one spoke above a whisper. They were all happy to get a candy. I declined the hookah only because it felt so dreamlike. I floated away. Later they would only have the wrapper to prove that it happened.

Come stop by Playasophy in the 3:00 Plaza (1:00 position in the circle at intersection 3:00 & B) for hookah and iced coffee during the week! We'll be doing this every afternoon Tuesday-Saturday, it's a great way to beat the heat.
