Gifting food: worried about MOOP contribution

Post by Sporkster » Thu Jun 27, 2019 10:14 am

Howdy all,

Looking to gift a special mustard that we make from a family recipe.

It would be unbranded packaging (commercial kitchen prepared), but I don't want to hand out a bunch of moopy individual serving packets (it's normally given in glass jars).

Any ideas on how to gift this type of yummy to folks? I haven't found a non-plastic compostable solution for on-playa use, and as we are traveling on the BxB, we have limited space.

I would have to say that gifting something like this may not be the best idea. First, you might need a permit for unpackaged food or home made food. More important is that I don't think anyone would realistically be getting this gift and actually be eating it either on playa or at home.

I have seen mustard sampled using pretzels in the local grocery - you would run the pretzel through the mustard and then hand it to the eater. No MOOP. The other possibility is to partner with a camp that serves mustard-loving food.

Cool beans. I think giving directly to the camps is the way to go. I just was worried about weight.

If you're worried about the weight, try a light mustard.

Your best bet is to team up with a camp that offers hot dogs or bacon to the public and just bring it in a normal dispenser.

Another option is to start an edible condiment body painting camp where folks can do spicy body shots from various peaks and valleys ...

Gotta get creative with condiments!
