I need my first cup of coffee as soon as I wake up !
a quick, easy, no waste way..
start boiling water
Then hit porta potty
When water boils, I use coffee bags. Like tea bags but real coffee. Folger's is my preferred brand.
2 minutes later I've got my coffee.

Nice thing about using bags is no waste, no coffee pot, can gift to others, no loose left over coffee at end of week, take off any left over bags.

I took my Breville into the dust every year; it made me *very* popular with my camp mates. I'm a late sleeper, so they developed a system wherein they lined their cups up every morning in the order of their request.

So I would awaken to a latte line of mugs. Fun!!!

We also, one year, did latte service for the guests of a sunrise wedding; boy were those folx, who had traipsed from all over the playa, happy to get a cuppa!

Our new neighbors, at the bottom of the holler, have a (really shitty, noisy) generator.

Regarding coffee: I was always entirely self-reliant; I also took care of my camp and neighbors.

Actually I'm more tea fiend now. My fav is oolong tea. All tea is one plant, camellia sinensis. It does get little blooms in Winter. I hear you should cut buds to force more growth to the leaves. I'm growing the Sochi cultivar for colder climates.

I have had an interest in Chinese stuff. I met an individual at the BRC airport. They were like "It's my birthday and I need a plane ride." We chatted and they were sharing the back of a pickup in the disability camp of lore, so they moved into my camp shared dome spot. We had an about 120 person camp, very solid.

So I had a work project in Taiwan, and I'm like, I'm only 4000 miles from their location so they offered to host. On the visit they did not know what to do with me, so they arranged a visit to a famous Chinese translator. They were also into the oolongs, so we had many tea pours and caffeinated discussion of Chinese philosophy and Taoism. It was an interesting discovery I was more Taoist than them.

There are many mystiques about tea. One is that mountain-grown tea has more caffeine because the sun stresses them. Sadly Taiwan is phasing out mountain tea farms over landslide concerns.

Coffee of choice recently has been Maple latte.
Made with fresh ground whistle pig whiskey barrel aged coffee from Vermont and a bourbon barrel aged maple syrup from the cantilever distillery, Strauss organic cream. Brewed in a Jura.

I had tea in Canada i loved.

I do a similar Maple Irish coffee with Middleton Irish whiskey. But that’s a bar thing.

Truth be told, I gulp my first cup of coffee of the day. If the rim of the mug had ink on it, I’d have a perfect ring on my face. It’s a powerful dip. Then I am ready to make more coffee.

I use a moka pot, 6 oz at a time, on a little butane burner. Have a seat, I’ll make one for you.

I've been looking online at coffee bags, and they're kind of pricey. What about using coffee pods the same way? They look fairly similar, are about half to a third the price, and should be able to be steeped. But I haven't tried it (yet). I've thought of putting a pod in my french press, and not squishing it hard enough to break the pod once it's steeped.

I just use the DIY tea bags for my coffee.
I "find" the unbleached ones give a better taste, for both coffee and for tea. I don't know if that's real, or just my expectation because they're unbleached...

But coffee made with those tea bags loses a lot of the bitter. I guess it's like filtered coffee?
A friend was really into coffee for a while. Roasting his own and "Can you you drive to ____ [nearby city] to get beans for me? Take your van." 1,100 lbs of green beans later...
He'd make a light roast I loved. The last batch before he moved ended up very much darker than I like; was not enjoyable. But put in the DIY tea bag, it tamed the bitter and that dark roast made a very nice coffee.

Works for brewed, or cold-brewed.
(I like my cold-brewed. Flavour without any bitter. Doesn't even need sugar! Coffee shop cold-brewed is horribly harsh & bitter! Like htf do they screw that up?)

Why does cold brew have that sweetness? I find the making of it a bit messy for me, and the return in cups of coffee for the qty of grounds used seems low. Still it is a very tidy system once it is made. When it is too windy to get a stove to work, or when driving too late: cold brew.
DIY bags… I’ll need to try this.

I don't perceive any sweetness with my cold-brew, but it's so utter devoid of bitter, so smooth, that I found that I don't reach for the sugar. Since I put the ground beans in the DIY tea bag (sit in fridge for two days, a week if I forget), there's is no mess. I end up with a concentrate. I leave some as liquid in fridge to mix & drink within two weeks, and the rest I freeze in ice-cube trays. It was when I didn't have either of those, that I put some ground beans in a DIY tea bag and poured hot water over it, and discovered that worked rather nicely.

Curious. For most things, I strongly prefer honey or maple syrup and sometimes brown sugar, and avoid white sugar. But I detest coffee with honey, and find the only thing that "works" is white sugar. How do others 'dress' their coffee?

I don't mind honey and coffee, have never tried maple syrup. I used to put sugar in my coffee but for diabetic reasons had to switch to stevia. I've gotten so used to it now that when I have sugar coffee from Starbucks by accident it startles me. It tastes really good though!

I almost never have plain coffee at home, but that may be because I'm lazy and I'm using instant coffee. If I had good cold brew or fresh brewed coffee I might drink it straight. What I do with my instant is I either put Turkish coffee spices, cinnamon, or a few drops of vanilla in it. And the stevia.

I miss the fresh coffee, but I have limited counter space in my kitchen and I drink tea a lot more than coffee. So the coffee maker got relegated to the cupboard above the refrigerator, taken out when we have company, and I switched to instant. The electric kettle reigns supreme where the coffee maker used to be.

Milk, or dry milk. I don’t like the whiteners per se, but find I abandon nutrition guidelines for camping, and like the hazelnut powdered whitener. I was out of milks last week and tried a little sugar. That took the sting out. I am surprised by how wonderful half and half and sugar make my take-away taste, but don’t provide the same at home.
