Food Permit Process & Fees NOT changing for 2025

Post by trilobyte » Wed Apr 23, 2025 12:32 pm

tl;dr - breathe easy, nothing's changing...

Earlier this season, there was a bit of a scare from the Central Nevada Health District (CNHD), they notified Burning Man that they were considering changing the process and the permit fee structure for the 2025 event.

The Placement Team reached out to camps who had identified that they served food over the last three years to notify them of this, and give them instructions on how they could provide comment to the CNHD. A number of camps took the time to reach out to CNHD and share the detrimental impacts of a fee increase. Their voices and thoughtful feedback were heard, and CNHD has informed Burning Man that they have paused all activities related to any potential fee changes. It’s Burning Man's understanding that the temporary food permit fees will remain unchanged for the 2025 Burning Man event.

For a lot of camps who would have potentially been impacted, this probably feels like old news, because for them it is. Since there had been questions about permit changes in previous years, and some new burners or new theme camps might still be hearing bits and pieces about it on social media, I figured it was worth posting about it here. For burners and camps who are considering, or already planning to prepare food for large groups or do some kind of public food service, I encourage you to check out (and feel free to post in) this thread.
