Sorry, it looks like the site had limited bandwidth, so it's down on May 6. I hope they aren't measured monthly. :-(

See here for an alternate story and more photos on the pudding:

In Norse mythology, Sæhrímnir was the cosmic boar killed and eaten every night in Valhalla by the Æsir and einherjar. The cook of the gods, Andhrímnir, was responsible for the slaughter and preparation using the cauldron named Eldhrímnir. After Sæhrímnir was eaten, he was brought back to life to provide sustenance for the following day.

a donut shop in our area has maple bars - with bacon! It's not as good as it sounds, but it ain't bad.

While not strictly bacon related, a hamburger joint in town has an occasional special where you can get your hamburger on a toasted Krispy Kreme donut (and I suppose you can get bacon on your krispy kreme burger, so there.) THAT one's a winner. Grease, salt, sugar, oh, baby.

And last but not least, my friend originally from Minnesota says that they make a treat there they call pig candy. Take about 1/4 cup brown sugar, add maybe some cayenne, maybe some dry mustard. Toss with 1/4 to 1/2 lb of bacon, put it on a cookie sheet and roast at 350 for 10-15 mins. (ok, so I'm sketchy on proportions - this isn't rocket science, experiment a little).

I only made it once, it was too dangerously good to repeat.

Mmmmmm, pig candy.

so pig candy... it's like... bacon with a kind of seasoned toffee coating? If I'm picturing this right it sounds a hell of a lot better than dipping it in chocolate! Did it come out all crispy bacon with candy/spice coating?!?!

pig candy

Post by swampdog » Mon Jun 09, 2008 2:21 pm

Pig candy - picture the crispy goodness of the outside of a glazed ham. That kind of a thing. You don't want a layer of brown sugar, just a glaze. Here's one version http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/bacon1.html

Most of the recipes I can find at the moment suggest putting the sugar on top of the bacon, some suggest doing it at the start, some suggest doing it midway.

I tossed the bacon with the sugar mix - came out sort of like a heavy dry rub.

Experiment! You CANNOT go wrong.

OMG one of my co-workers brought in the bacon maple bars. I was really scared at first but then just kept eating it. I want more. Whats the place called that sells them? I may have to hike myself out there.
Really? Use eggs as a sealer? Nah, it will never work. There's gotta be something else that's edible yet would seal that cup. But damn if I know what it is.

GRITS !! seriously, after they get cooled down.. you could build a fence with them. I smear them inside a flour tortilla and load in the breakfast goodies.. and the grits seal everything up like a drum.
