How many of you crave PICKLES on the playa?

My crew and i are trying to decide on some last thoughts about our art car stuff & one of the things that we were thinking of doing is passing out pickles. I know the idea sounds kind of odd.... even for the playa. It would go along with the motif of our art car idea, but i wanted to ask all of you if you would enjoy an ice cold pickle mid day on the Esplanade.

This idea spawned from a pretty comical fight that happened last year at our camp when a good friend & myself towards the end of the week, got in a huge struggle over the last pickle in the jar outta the cooler! lol....

With all the dust storms & wind everyone in our tent ate up this huge jar of pickles I had bought. It seems the vinegar completely quenched our parched throats & was delicious! lmao...

Which such an odd idea, I figured it might be a good idea to see what ppl thought before we go fund raising to buy 20 gallons of pickles to take with us.

Your opinions are appreciated! Thank you!

I love pickles! Dill, sweet gerkins, bread-n-butter, relish, chutney, and cucumbers/ baby zuchinis.

Know what? I think you're definitely onto something. No doubt, you crave salty foods on the playa. You tend to not realize it until you start eating something salty and then can't. stop. I know that's how it's gone any time someone busted out some cold deli meat around my camp. Lots of people will likely scoff, but to those in the know, it will be a pretty memorable gift, I think : )

1. Salty
2. Has water in it.
3. Delicious.

Sounds like a perfect playa snack to me.

I brought a box of Ho-Hos and a jar of dill pickles last year. Never ate the Ho-Hos (odd for me!), but the pickles were devoured...LOVE them, great idea!

Peanut butter and pickles sandwiches...mmmmmm...I may live on those this year.

I was told that you are suppose to eat at least a pickle a day on the playa to help with keeping your salt up. So I did, and will.

Actually, fresh cucumbers have a documented cooling effect. Pickling them in in salt and vinegar can only make them more refreshing.

Pickles and bacon are the new black this year!

Could this bring unwanted attention from the health department?

Seriously? So I'm not the only one who's had that odd craving out there! :P I second (or third... or fourteenth) the motion -- you are really onto something! And not just pickled cucumbers; olives, carrot sticks, greenbeans, pepperoncinis... anything pickled is good, and even more so in the desert!

I'll be the one with the Bloody Mary, chasing after your MV for embellishments!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! I'm so glad this has had a positive response. I knew my friend & I had a reasonable quarrel over the last pickle....it wasn't just the crankiness & sleep deprivation! lol...... ;o)

I will definitely have to relay this info to my crew & start preparations. Mad planning is in order!

Thank you soooooooooo much for your feed back. We were really on the fence with this one.

I can't wait to share with you guys! I'm so home sick for the playa.

BTW.... names we were considering for our silly idea.

pickles??? who knew?

Post by ThePaperLeaf » Sat May 09, 2009 5:20 pm

This will be my first year. I'm not up to doing whatever it takes to hand out free pickles to everyone, but you've convinced me to bring a case of my homemade pickles for my campmates. Jalepeno Garlic Dill. They took 2nd place at the Nevada State Fair last year.

There is always the Critical Dicks march.

You can share one pickle with thousands of people that way.

Frozen treats are always one of my favorite things to get during the day. If I could afford to bring an ice cream truck I would.
