Seriously...thank you Liz. I never would have created a whole thread just to push Bob stuff on people. Bob (aka Bob Stahl, aka Bob with the couch as an icon) is a lover of the Black Rock, and so I created this store and stuck his face on stuff you can buy.

So, if you prefer to carry water in a metal container rather than on your back...or...if you're a fire performer that likes these little metal bottles for your flammables, then you should go check out the shop. I don't make any money from this, in fact, sales have been so low that I have yet to get a check from them. But...when I do, the check goes to the Friends of the Black Rock.

Thanks again Liz...you're a peach!
It's going to be alright.

I just wonder if people will adapt this point when they are stoned, drunk or otherwise fucked up. "Hey dude!? Where did I put the little plastic baggie that my weed was in? Oh well, the wind must have wanted it!"

Now there are 2,500,000,000 drug laced ziploc bags floating around the desert.
Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night.
Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

um, not the ones i find, i usually turn them inside out and lick them...

before i throw them in the trash, or like my grandmother, rest in peace, would wash them and re-use them...

she was a little crazy, you know?

said the same stories, over and over again.

i always listened though.

i've got a bota from my grandfather, rest in peace, i havent used in years....

i'm bringing that, and my amazing new beer can leash system that even a frat boy can operate.

Reusing plastic containers for your water is wonderful. Scrounge and save bottles/bags year round and proudly bring them out to the playa. I even scrounge smaller bottles from recycling bins for daily use. Vitamin Water and Gatorade bottles are particularly durable and handy. Borrow one of those empty 5 gallon jugs from the office if you can.

Buying a bunch of those fancy blue things from *mart is NOT wonderful unless you have other uses for them the rest of the year. So many of those damn things get used one or twice, develop a taste, get used to haul waste water back home, or the spigot breaks off, then they end up in a landfill. If that's you plan, those disposable 2.5 gallon suitcases (returned for recycling) are much better.

Don't even get me started on alkaline battery operated blinkies that are only used one or two nights vs glow sticks. Or solar panels that are only used for one week out of the year. Heads might explode.

The water suitcases, when split in half, make great foot soaking tubs.

God DAMN I wish I was cool.

You bring small bottles so you can freeze them and they function as ice.

You can also GIVE THEM TO PEOPLE without them fearing it being spiked.

I just completed a ten day experiment with frozen 2 liter bottles in a coleman icebox. 10 bottles fit into my box with some room on top and in between for food. All were melted after 10 days but still cool. One had a pinhole leak I didn't spot and leaked about a cup of water. Other bottles had sweat on them from humidity in the box. And there was some mold/bacteria spots on the bottom of the box.

My recommendations: wipe out and spray disinfectatant like alcohol or lysol in box, put down absorbant like a paper towel or dishcloth in bottom of box, leave airspace in bottles before freezing, keep box locked when not using.

Last year the plastic icebags from Artica had holes in them causing leaks. When you get to camp, rebag cracked ice in leakproof ziplock bags before putting in coolers or put directly into your igloo water jugs. I intend to get purchased ice first day to keep my bottles frozen as long as possible.

I figure 20 liters of water plus the beer and sodas and juices and teas I'm bringing should suffice. I'm bringing unfrozen 3 liter bottles for my wash and coffee water (and backup drinking water). I'm bringing 2 one gal. jugs of sealed water bottles for guests.

It took 3 days for the ten bottles to freeze in my refrigerator icebox. I'll start freezing my water on the 26th and leave home on Sunday the 30th. I'll load waterbox lastly in my car so that it will be first off and into a small tent for shade untill I get my camp set up.

This is a good time to clean out the old icebox kiddies.

Which model of Coleman did you use there, Oldguy? I got an Extreme.

Most my water is staying out of the freezer, since we'll have a cooler with Gatorade powder and we'll buy in ice for that.

Also consider in the final day or two, you'll be into drinking that meltwater.
The following experiment was performed on little chicks. One group was given ordinary water to drink, while the other was allowed to drink only snow melt water with pieces of ice floating in it.

The test could hardly have been simpler. But the results were surprising. The chicks drinking the ordinary water would do so serenely and without fuss. But the basin of melt water was always a virtual battlefield. The chicks swallowed the water as greedily as if it were something unusually tasty.

A month and a half later the experimental birds were weighed. Those brought up on melt water were much heavier, had gained more weight than the chicks which had been drinking ordinary water. In a word, snow melt water possesses certain wonderful properties. It is very beneficial to live organisms. Why is this so?

At first it was thought to be due to the higher deuterium content in the melt water. In small concentrations heavy water stimulates the development of living organisms. But this was only partly true. Now it is believed that the true reason lies elsewhere, in the very process of melting.
