Ice Sales -- How big are the ice bags?

Post by Totoro » Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:36 pm

Or is it even sold in bags?

I'm wondering how I can buy ice and get it back to my little (individual) campsite with my bike, which really only has a small carrying bag above the rear wheel. Big enough to fit my roller blades, but that's it.

Any advice anyone? Thanks so much!

Regular sized bags. You could fit one or two in a backpack, just insulate your back with a towel.

There are lots of ways to carry ice back without some fancy gadget. If you aren't too far from one of the stations you can carry 2 bags just fine. You can balance a 5-pack (they come strapped together) over your handlebars and walk the bike. You can flag down someone with a trike or art car and ask for help carrying the ice.

You can also wrap the ice in a sarong or other large piece of fabric and carry it with a friend - one on each end.

Its a bit late to be useful, but ice came in 7 pound bags of crushed, or 10lb blocks.

And I am now a huge fan of buying ice in blocks.

Our dry ice was mostly gone by Tuesday in our freezer cooler (need to work on the design) but I still had ice from blocks purchased that Tuesday on Friday of the next week in the cooler. Granted, they were three small pieces inside of the bags, but it was still there over a week later.
