Re: Decent box wine?
For those looking to tote around for personal use/share with new friends, but don't enjoy box wine-just empty a couple bottles into a new camelbak bladder with a twist able spout-instant "slap the bag!"

Continuing with the research...........
Bota Box Moscato is a very refreshing wine that would be great chilled & enjoyed during the heat of the day on Playa. Or elsewhere the other 51 weeks of the year.

Well, its not quite off the shelf, but I've been making some wine from kits that go for about $40 and yield 6 gallons of ~10% wine. So far I've done a shiraz, malbec, zinfandel blush and a sauvignon blanc that turned out well.

If you have not checked it out here's a great wine making resource.

He also has a SpaceBook page.
I made a killer Mango wine using his recipe.
Since you already have the equipment & know how to make wine these recipes are cheap & fun to make. No kit required (Although you may need more carboys

Yeah, I've done quite a few wines/ciders from juice. I think I've fermented everything possible from Costco, lol. I usually bring a keg of Unicorn Blood (fermented concord grape juice) to events. It's good but you can definitely tell the difference between it and juice from various varietals. (from the kits).FlyingMonkey wrote:+++1000mudpuppy000 wrote:Well, its not quite off the shelf, but I've been making some wine from kits that go for about $40 and yield 6 gallons of ~10% wine. Re: Decent box wine?
Want to bring this thread back to life. Any decent boxed red wines out there besides Black Box and Bota Box? Will work for wine!
Best Regards,

I plan to take the Burner Express and need a box wine also. I have tried several lately and really like Vella. I have only tried the Cabernet though. You can get it at Walmart.

We settled on Franzia Crisp White. "Crisp White" sounds dreadful, doesn't it?!
Well, it is sweet. But people tell me it is perfect on Playa -- refreshing, they often say when I ask. I cannot explain how that works, but I agree with it myself.
In many other settings, it might be considered a dessert wine -- that is, very sweet. Turns out... mysteriously... it is also good as a desert wine.

Black Box Pinot Noir and Cab Sauvignon are pretty delicious and goes pretty quickly at camp.
Although, one made from organic grapes would be awesome, I haven't been able to find any.

Bota box Malbec is our go-to value red wine iffen we want to drink it rather than cook with it.
Poke it with a stick!
