Mixes for Kraken Rum
I was wondering if anyone here drinks Kraken black spiced rum ...
I received a bottle from a friend, and I need some mix ideas ... the problem is, I don't drink anything carbonated, and most rum mixes have some form of soda in them.
I usually only drink vodka, so I'm not very well versed on things to mix with rum... So, any ideas you have would be welcome.
Thanks,

My FAAAAAAAAAAAAVORITE.
Straight on ice works great.
Ginger beer + lime squirt = Dark & Stormy
In a pinch, just straight ginger ale will work.
Google also works.. in a pinch.

Re: Mixes for Kraken Rum
I spent quite a while on google looking for ideas.... I didn't find muck without some sort of soda. Since I don't drink anything carbonated, gingerale is out. I did find one that's suggest a adding coconut water as a mix.
I like it on the rocks, but since I can count the number of alcoholic beverages I've had since last Christmas on one hand, drinking it straight up will put me under the table fast.

It's nice to sip off of, though. It doesn't have to be a get drunk thing.. it just tastes really good. Put it in a small glass over some ice with a squeeze of lime juice.. swirl it around.. let some of the ice melt a little. Maybe a pinch of sugar in there.

for some reason my reply did not take.
Spiced rum is
good in coffee with cream and sugar.
good in warm milk with sugar and spices like cinnamon or cloves and nutmeg. as a nitecap.
good in egg nog.
also good in hot chocolate.

I'm a big fan of Spiced Rum and ICE COLD orange juice.
Though, it will look disgusting! The dark rum mixed with the orange juice is a nasty brown color, but tasty!

Pineapple juice, coco lopez and kraken. Don't even bother blending, just shake vigorously.
Also, you might have some fun with some goya fruit nectars. Strawberry and mango are particularly delicious.

Re: Mixes for Kraken Rum
if you can find it ginger cordial, with water or (american) lemonade works as non-carbonated dark and stormy. i personally found it tastier once i got used to the lack of bubbles.
anOther weird mixers for Kraken rum is espresso. the liquorice of the rum goes very well

I know juice goes well with regular rum, but wasn't sure about a dark spiced rum like Kraken.Ugly Dougly wrote:Juice. All kinds of juice go with rum. Do try it, if you will.

If I have it for the party, the nasty look, will go well with my costume colors.
I'll give it a try on Friday, and if I don't like it, I'll save the Kraken for Christmas nog, and stick with vodka & OJ for the party... but I really want to drink the Kraken

Maybe, at least red is in the same range as brown/orange and would pull it more towards orange from the yellow.Savannah wrote:Maybe a dash of grenadine could fix that?

Re: Mixes for Dark Spiced Rum
+1 to much of what's been said above. Kraken is a dark, spicy rum. If you take a peek at any of the bartending sites on the internet, you should find a lot of fun (and delicious) things to try that use dark or spiced rums. It's pretty compatible with most sodas and juices, but it's also pretty flavorful on its own. Some of my campmates and I were enjoying it over ice by day or just plain straight up by night (it's a fun bottle to swig from).

Make some Rum cake with it. MMmmMmMmMMmmMm.
I don't know if it would work with a dark rum like that, but I've had some amazing infused rums. Banana/vanilla bean is incredible. You can dilute it and sweeten a bit so you don't have to drink it straight up.

Re: Mixes for Kraken Rum
OK
Here is one from my Grandfather in Brazil
1 fresh egg
1 shot of rum
1 Tbs sugar
Collect egg from chicken. Break egg into a cup; discard shell. Add rum and sugar. stir with fork until well blended and sugar is disolved. Drink
Haven't tasted this since I was 5 years old. I remember watching my Grandfather make it a couple of times a day when my mother and I went to visit him in Brazil. He would give me a taste of it whenever my mom was not around. Probably why I like rum so much.

Re: Mixes for Kraken Rum
So, after talking about The Kraken so much, I had to try it.
The bottle kicks ass and is really easy to drink out of with the little finger handles.
But well, it sorta sucks for the price.
It doesn't go down smooth and doesn't have a very good taste for spiced rum.
For the same price I much prefer Sailor Jerry. Sadly, Sailor Jerry doesn't' have a cool name or come in a really cool bottle. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of Spiced Rum to begin with. I was really hoping that the Kraken would be really tasty and the perfect bottle to carry around in my back pack at the burn.
The thing I actually like about Sailor J. is that its very very easy and tasty to drink out of a flask... even a flask that has been in my pocket for a couple of hours and is sorta warm.

I didn't like Kraken with any of the juice mixes. I'm saving it for egg nog @ Christmas(has that last year and really liked it)
I probably wouldn't have bought it, but a friend gave it to me as a thank you for helping her move. She likely picked it because of the bottle.

Re: Mixes for Kraken Rum
I dunno, I like the taste. Mind you, I also like Sailor Jerry - even though by "Sailor" they mean tattoo artist and by "Jerry" they mean Norman (wikipedia). I think of Sailor Jerry as being more on par with something garden variety like Captain Morgan, where I hold Kraken in the same regard as I do Myer's.
