Since I was not feeling very chipper late last summer ,my turnips were planted too late last fall to mature. My down-the-road neighbor knew this and he brought me 2-5 gal. buckets of fresh-pulled turnips late this afternoon.
And, since turnips (once out of the ground) need to be dealt with as rapidly as possible, I immediately began with my peeling, quartering, cooking, cooling, and have just not finished vacuum packaging the last of them and placing them in the freezer.
What a nice neighbor. I now have 42 precooked meal-size portions in the freezer and this should last us at least two to three years.
Mr. Ivy is the neighbor who brings his deer over my place to skin and to age in my cooler. The nice thing about living out in the county is that nobody keeps score -- It is just helping out neighbors.
If you are out peddling around the airport this year at TTITD and you smell turnips simmering, please stop by for a taste of some fine Mississippi country cooking.
It is 12:19 am here and time to go toes up.

So what is a good turnip recipe?
Here in fredericksburg we only lock our car doors during peek garden season. Cause if you don't you are likely to end up with a backseat full of cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes.

Re: Turnips Cooking....
In my opinion, the easiest and tastiest way to cook turnips is to:
(1) Peel
(2) Quarter or half
(3) Boil in salted water until fork tender
(4) Season with butter, salt & pepper
(5) Serve
