water in gerlach this year from their water dpt?
Have I missed an announcement regarding GID water this year? I have not seen it in Jack Rabbit Speaks. I have called Gerlach GID and not gotten an answer. I'm hoping someone saw info I've missed. It's really convenient to get water right before the playa. Thanks!

Bump for 2018! Anyone know if/when water service in Gerlach starts?
Re: water in gerlach this year from their water dpt?
There is usually a JRS that covers that info. A resource issue.

Historically there’s been a very long line for that water. I always load up earlier.

At the market in Fernley you can buy/fill your 5 gallon containers. At the Walmart 1 gallon is well under $1. I can't wrestle the large containers so I went with the gallons last year. It was a pleasure.

Unless you're hauling a lot of water and don't want to deal with the weight of it for safety and control reasons, it's probably better to just fill up at home or somewhere cheap along the way and drive it all the way to BRC rather than suffer the (in)convenience of stopping and waiting to fill up in Gerlach and pay way more than you would in gas transporting it, even hundreds of miles.

Our two vehicles are hauling around 90-100 gallons total, and coming from seattle, so filling up close by is really the only option, especially with the two trailers for our camp. Is there somewhere between clamath falls and gerlach that would be better since were coming in from the north?

Yes, Cedarville. Cedarville is a conservative old-west looking town that figured out about 15 years ago that the weird crazy burners that came through were actually nice people who spent lots of money on supplies. Now they cater to the burners passing through every summer and it’s a great last stop before playa.
Do some googling, often there are ranches and farms just south of “downtown” Cedarville that let burners load up on water for a modest donation. I’ve done that.
Usually I carry my 90-100 gallons from home just because I don’t like relying on ANYTHING on the way besides fuel.
You still have some hills to go over between there and the playa but it beats the line in Gerlach.
The good thing is you’ve already gone over the biggest torture test between Seattle and BRC, Cedar Pass. Cedarville is at the bottom, just after you’ve gone over it. If you’re loaded heavy enough that you were worried about carrying your water, go easy on Cedar Pass, shift down, don’t floor it, run your heater to help cool the motor if you need to. That’s a hell of a hill when you’re heavy.
Generally if you’re coming from Seattle you never even want to turn down into Cedarville ever at all.
