I love the cook ahead/Freeze/thaw/heat concept for food, but I'm curious if pre-cooked steel-cut oats (note: the hourlong-cooktime kind) freeze well? I'd rather heat up a batch of Irish oats with fruit, cream and nuts already in, than the instant kind.

Why don't you experiment with it at home the next time you make some?

thats what I did for breakfast , I had it in vac u seal bags. I would boil it for about 15 min. and then add maple syrup and some milk. tasted good. Also it was the long cook kind , dont like the instant stuff , to much sugar.

Backpacking I would get the 5-minute oats, add dark brown sugar, fresh ground nutmeg, raisins, peanut butter, water, stir into cookie-dough consistency and add fresh fruit (peaches, bananas, blueberries, banana).
No cooking
