Hello,
I am looking for some assistance filling out our Camp Application. The application is 90% done.
I am hoping to fill out the "Sound Amplification Details." Our music director is presently out of the country and does not have the info anyway.
If yes, please provide details regarding your sound amplification plans (including system wattage). If your camp will be louder than 90 decibels at 20 feet; you are likely suited for the Large-Scale Sound Art area of Black Rock City. Camps within the city limits must respect the sound policy of camps limiting their sound spill over to not disrupt other camps. A maximum power amplification of 300 watts is permitted behind the Large Scale Sound Art area within the city limits.
We have 4 PA speakers and two large sub-woofers. I would not consider us a large sound camp, yet 100 people could easily get their groove on in our chill space.
If someone could help me with feedback on the camp application, private message me. Thanks!

Re: Sound Amplification Details
I'm giving this a nudge over to the Building Camps & Villages board, since that's a better fit for discussions and questions about building camps (and also filling out questionnaires). The year-specific board is better for announcing or updating projects and plans.
You don't have anybody in your camp who knows anything about the sound system you're planning to bring? Seriously?
I'd first suggest waiting until the 'musical director' gets back (assuming that he or she gets back before the end of April). Check with that person, and if the person you put in charge of sound isn't able to provide you with that kind of information you should consider replacing him or her with somebody who can. It's kind of important - not only for camp placement questionnaire issues and being a good neighbor, but also for budgeting things like power needs and fuel consumption.
If the person doesn't know because you're planning on renting gear, then a) you most likely would belong in the neighborhoods zoned for large scale sound art, and b) you could get in touch with the company you're renting from to get the details and specifications you need to fill out the questionnaire. If someone in the camp owns the gear, contact that person. I'm certain that the person who owns the gear can speak to the wattage of the system, or at the very least look the gear and tell you the model numbers of what you're planning to use so you can look the info up online.
Large scale sound art doesn't mean giant sound camp, it means large scale sound system. 2 bottoms and 4 tops sounds like a system that's probably above the 300 watt limit.

100 people getting a grove on is large scale sound.
There you go.
No specs, watts, dB needed.
If 100 people ate dancing, the tunes don't sound like shit, distorted, clipping ... You are running way more than 300W.
There is a reason the BORG came up with them magic numbers. Decades of experience.
But like Trillo said, you got bigger personnel issues to sort out.
