I need a big sturdy dust proof tent for a costume botique.

I Need a big sturdy dust proof tent. I like and have been using the big car port tent. They are the perfect size and are so sturdy. But I need something more dust proof. I use it as a costume tent/boutique. I love to give away and loan CLEAN costumes to people all week, and I don't mind the cleaning of the used costumes, but even though I do my best to dust proof the hell out of my tent, they still get dusty and every year I have a big job cleaning the un-used costumes, which I would like to try and avoid because I have sooo many!
If any one knows of a big sturdy dust proof option (doesn't have to be a tent), please let me know. Cheers
Love Moneisha.

Springbar makes great canvas tents. A bit pricey, but very dust proof.

I think what you need is a big air compressor so you can easily blow the dust off.
$400 or so will fetch a really big gas powered one in decent shape on Craigslist that will blast all the air you can use.
$300 will buy a new electric one that will work well, if you have power at your camp.

Trying not to get dusty is always tough. Having the ability to quickly and easily clear the dust out of costumes and/or everything else is far better.

Even if it is "dust proof", people track in playa on their shoes and bodies.

There are large military surplus tents out there these days, but they are heavy. Commercial event rental structures seal up much better than carports. You could also construct something using "boat wrap" or "construction wrap". It takes some skill to apply. It is LDPE #4 recyclable plastic and sometimes construction recyclers collect it.

I always thought it would be cool to build a tunnel that would blow the dust off, then a shoe shedding area as an entry to an RV or large tent. Even with that, I think it would be a losing battle!

Yeah, if you're trying to clean off dusty stuff in your dust proof enclosure, oops. Cleaning it outside, in the dust, good luck with that. :D

I'm tellin' you guys, a good air compressor and a blow gun is all the good luck you need!
I always bring one. That's how the Land Yacht and it's red velour couch manage to stay nice despite the dust storms.

If this is for use on the playa I wonder why you are so concerned about the dust. The wind blew almost everyday this year. 10 minutes out of the tent and everything will be dusted. The participants can see the beauty under the layer of dust. Embrace it.

I don't take an air compressor to the playa, but it's my favorite cleaning tool for cleaning the dusty before storing; works a charm!!

Two things come to mind.
  • Garment bags of some sort, with clear display panels. How are you storing/displaying the costumes in the tent?
  • A swamp-cooler: so the tent is under a small constant positive pressure due to dust-free air entering it from the swamp cooler.
    • This won't prevent dust coming in on people and their feet (a vacuum that doesn't exhaust at the ground would help control what people track in), and
    • you'd want to seal the strucutre up very very well (structure itself, swamp-cooler intake and the structure exhaust vent) when you head out to explore BRC, but
    • it will push out dusty air from inside your shelter, while
    • minimizing air with dust entering too.

Dust proof! I had to laugh!

Maybe you should consider a hexayurt with canvas or tarp floor? Use one of the models that is 6 foot for standing and lots of battery powered lights. Just about the only structure I've seen that comes anywhere near "dust proof." But lets face it, dust proof only goes as far as the beginning of gate road.

Take a look at domes with a fitted cover and a zippered floor. Thats about as dust proof as you can get on the playa. Structurally, they are the strongest things out there short of a conex box.

I've found my mongolian-style yurt can be sealed up enough to stay reasonably dust-free, though that would obviously be less true if you had a steady stream of people going in and out - you'd probably want to add some kind of secondary structure to act as a kind of airlock. The yurt also has the advantage over a dome that the entire space can be standing height. A 16'diameter yurt has about the same square footage as your 10'x20' carport; a 20' diameter yurt has about 50% more.

That said, they're non-trivial to build from scratch, and not cheap to buy in finished form (expect $2K+). I can point you to a good resource if that's something you want to explore, though.
