Every year, hard working participants create over a thousand theme camps throughout Black Rock City. Planning and running a theme camp is hard work, and Placement works even harder learning about, understanding, and responding to the needs of those camps.
Part of that job is visiting every theme camp on playa - and to do that, we need participants like you to join PEERS: Placements Exploration and Engagement Research Squad. The PEERS team is Placement’s eyes and ears on playa - we are the ones who visit placed camps to learn about interactivity, neighborhoods and each camp’s experience with the placement process.
It takes hundreds of volunteers to visit every camp, so if you enjoy what theme camps offer, and can spare even three hours during the event to help and have fun, PEERS needs you. You and a buddy will be given a short list of theme camps to visit, usually timed to coincide with cool interactivity going on at each camp. You’ll talk to the camp leads, enjoy some of their interactivity, and get their feedback via a survey we’ll provide. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it makes a big difference.
Shifts are three hours, and you can volunteer individually or with a friend. We ask for a minimum of one shift, but lots of people find it so much fun they come back to do even more. It doesn’t matter if this is your first burn or your fifteenth, your help is welcome.
Volunteer by filling out the Volunteer Questionnaire on your Burner Profile and selecting Placement’s Exploration and Engagement Research Squad (PEERS).

Very cool. If I were sure what my plans were, I'd volunteer for this!

We usually have room available to just “walk on”, especially later in the week.
I do recommend signing up and at least doing the training if you’re interested in it at all - it’s a self paced online class that usually takes 30-40 minutes. We can do it on playa too, of course, but most people would much rather spend that time visiting camps instead.
If your plans firm up, you can also sign up in advance for shifts, pretty much up until gate opens.
