"The Honda EU1000 is rated at 900 watts, 1000 is it's "surge" rating, and the altitude is nearly 5000 feet."

Ew. Then it looks like:

107F and 5000 ft, then:
1.5% x 3 =4.5% & 1% x 5 + another 6% =11%

4.5% of 900 watts = 40.5 (temp) +
11% of 900 watts = 99 (elevation)=
wattage is reduced by 139.5 watts to 760.5 watts. (round down to 760)

760-644 = 116 watts difference. VERY CLOSE. We'll see what happens. Stay tuned... :?

(oh yeah - sold that coleman yesterday - I luv craigslist)

man what an amazing week! (10 days for us)

I always have mixed feelings about coming back to default world...

~ANYHOO~

This is just a post to let anyone who wants to try it know that:

YES, a Honda 1000w EU generator will successfully run a small 515watt home/window air conditioner on the playa during the hottest part of the day. (And it also was capable of charging my van's battery at the same time)

We did not need a generator box as the thing is remarkably quiet.
That said, we were also camped right next door to Arctica near center camp and their big generators...

most art cars I saw were running the 2000watt Honda EU genny for their lights and sound.

thanx to all who helped me figure this out. I hope this knowledge will help someone else in the future.

Now then, I still have a lot of unpacking and cleaning to do....

:-)

and run it back into your vehicle so you know what it's like having to live next to some jerkoff running his vehicle in camp. Same with generators: run the exhaust into _your_ tent/car/shade instead of mine.
A little late obviously, and Phil, Ive always enjoyed your posts, but what a stupidly fucked up thing to say !!!

I'm glad you dug this up - I have just started on an upgrade to the filter box - I bought a plastic bin (like tupperwate), cut the sides out and taped furnace filters to the inside over the cut-out places. It affords a little more security for the genny and a removable lid for easy refills.

Mojo, When are we going to hook up???

Anyway, don't you worry about overheating the honda gennie in a closed filter box??( Gennie in a box.)

At time's mine have gotten hot, and that why I run the honda synthetic oil in them.
I just bring extra filters and change/clean them often. I also get a new pull rope installed b-4 heading to the Playa. Nothing like a broken rope on the Playa.... :!: :!:

Oooo baby, I like it when you talk like that..... wait - I want to dab a little motor oil behind each ear....

Yes, I am a hopeless gearhead, dedicated to all things Burning Man (and old British autos)

What were we talking about? - oh yeah

I hope the filter box won't be too warm - I have left only a couple of inches of plastic along each corner. I keep the genny under shade but may just go back to the old furnace filter box which seems to get plenty of air. Will test at 4th of Juplaya.

Great hint about the synthetic oil - it's now on my list. I think I will have the shop go over it this year to be sure everything's ok, including starting system.
