Which Tent and Shade should I go for? (Tent Kodiak for sure)

Post by kewlguy » Mon Jul 15, 2019 11:30 am

Hello all-

I am preparing for the burning man. I have narrowed down what kind of tent I want to go for, and the shades to two (really, three) choices-

1) Get Costco Carport, and get Kodiak. The only question I have with this is, I do want to get 10x14, but it look like 10x10 is the best size for this kind of set up. Can anyone share their experience doing 10x14 with costco carport? I have tried to Google it, and only see lot of discussion with 10x10 with costco carport, so I am not sure if this is something that work well. Anyone care to chime in? (This is basically two choice in one, costco port, but with two different size of Kodiak)

2) Get 10x14 and aluminet and cover the tent., (Similar to this. https://www.burn.life/tents-and-shade.html the 2014 setup)

Aluminet is great for making a semi-shaded diffused light lounge area. Somewhere to sit in the breeze.

It is not very good at keeping tents cooler.

You want 100% opaque shade for your tent. 100% blocking of light.

You’ll see allot of the silver and blue heavy duty tarps deployed for just that.

Carports are proven, though lots of folks will upgrade the tarps for more sun blocking.

I've had good luck with a double layer of aluminet on my monkey hut. Good shade and very little wind load.
