Finding uncommon size of metal shade structure tubes
Finding uncommon size of metal shade structure tubes
Hello, I have inherited a metal tube shade structure that's missing 1 leg. I have tried EMT conduit from home despot.. the 1 inch size is too small and the 1.25 is too big. They don't have an in-between size.
Any tips or sources for what this other size metal tube might be and where to find it? It might not be EMT conduit. It's definitely metal. (The poles are the diameter of the 1 inch elbow connector, if that makes sense). Thanks!

Pick up a $5 micrometer and measure the inside and outside dimensions that will make it a lot easier to help you. Also who is the manufacturer?
Don't try to measure with a tape or ruler.

If regular thin-wall conduit is not a match, check the rigid conduit in the 1” size. The wall on rigid conduit is much thicker and might fit.
Besides, you won’t find a perfect fit anyway but close-enough might be good enough to rig.

Screw or drill or hammer a nail or screw or pin through a slightly oversized tube to stop other tube sliding in too deep.

Re: Finding uncommon size of metal shade structure tubes
Try a piece of fence top rail, I'll bet it fits just right.
Just ask me how I know...
Fence top rail measures 1.305" OD, 1 1/4" emt actually measures 1.510" OD
The stated "sizes" for EMT probably are in reference to ID not OD.

Thanks all, just did the caliper and the poles are approx 1.4" outer diam and 1.3" inner diam.
This is in between the 2 sizes of EMT at my local store.
I'll try your idea in the fence section, Jacky. I'm open to any other suggestions from the brain trust, thanks!

Re: Finding uncommon size of metal shade structure tubes
Try the fence rail first.
The numbers you provide do not match any type of tube. Goodle for "custom exhaust" in your area and take a male and female piece of your shelter to them and ask if they can match it.

If you're using a real set of calipers there is no "approx", that measurement should be dead-on accurate. Also a set of calipers should yield more digits past the decimal point.

It was chain link fence rail tube, not EMT! THANKS GENIUSES!
