Ideas on how to put up a Flag for my camp

Post by KBryantmvp » Thu Aug 04, 2022 4:45 pm

So I have a flag that I'd like to use as a beacon for our camp. It has a modified version of the Burning Man logo but adapted to my camp theme.

1) what would you use as a pole?
2) what type of lights would you use so that I can add them to the contour of the logo so that they're light weight and the flag can still fly.

Thanks in advance!

I found large extendable flag poles - like 28' tall painter's poles, and after installing the flags, wrapped EL wire from top to bottom and lashed them to our carports. Worked well.

For attaching to a pole (carport, EMT shade, etc) I recommend 2 or 3 pipe clamps. Screws. Down to form a very tight high clamping force, and it'd take massive force to break. At least 2, with at least 9" between them. More I'd you have a taller pole, so when the wind picks up or gusts, the pole acting as a lever won't snap the pipe clamps. If you're doing a 28' pole with an actual flag, I'd recommend at least 2' overlap with 4 pipe clamps. Frankly better to have the but over top a bit of rebar/lag sticking out of the playa which will act as an additional counter to the wind cranking.

I used a swimming pool net aluminum pole for years.
Pound a fencepost "T" or "L" bar in the playa, use a few large hose clamps to tie the pole on the post.
Also, the pool net pole is in two pieces that secure together very efficiently.
