Ever try these fence post spikes

I have use these many times ITRW to make free standing posts solid. Wondering how hard they would be to bash down 24" when they have significantly more footprint than a spike or rebar. Anyone try these on the playa?

I have a pretty big shade sail 20' x 14' and we just want posts at the corners to hang hammocks - not poles.

Hm...the problem is they don't seem to have much hold when pulled mostly upwards. Which with just about any shade, especially tarps or 80+% shade cloth, you'll have a pretty good amount of upwards pull and will probably rip these right out.

Get 1/2" x 18" or longer lags and ratchet straps. If you want to ratchet straight down, I'd get 22" or longer, maybe even going up to 5/8". If you're doing the X criss-cross you can get away with 1/2"x14 or 1/2"x16" I'd say.

If all you want is posts for hammocks, not to hold down your shade, if they go down ~24" I'd say it'll probably be fine, as long as it's not super thin (18 awg or thinner) metal, and ideally some kind of X or cross to provide hold in multiple directions. That's actually a pretty solid idea, to create a hammock stand on the Playa. Challenge is you still have to deal with relatively big and bulky 4x4s.
