Is joining up with a camp necessary?

Post by haolegolucky » Sun Jul 16, 2006 3:00 pm

Hello and help...
after six years of wanting to go, I decided to make it happen. I will be losing my BM virginity this year finally.

I have been a part of the psytrance/burner "scene" in Seattle for a long time, and known several people who have been going to BM since time immemorial essentially. That being said, some of them are trying to get me to join their camp, but I am not sure if its right for me.

I was thinking of just heading out there and setting up tent/shade structure/homebase for a week plus and just wandering and letting things fall into place.

Do people recommend joining up with a camp, or can you just go and camp yourself and get whatever experience is coming your way anyways?

Mahalo,

I think you'll be fine camping by yourself. We did our first time (and several times thereafter). We camped near a first-timer last year who was by herself, although she knew people there - same as you, if I'm reading right.

Have fun and see you there.

A second vote of confidence for the concept of going without a camp. You'll be fine, have a qualitatively different experience than camping with a group, and enjoy the burn however you do it.

My first three years on playa I camped solo, and I fell in with great folks wherever I went. It gave me the time to figure out where I fit and I didn't have to worry about anyone's needs but my own. As long as you're well prepared, and stay hydrated, etc. you'll be fine.

If you do any sort of camping in the first place, it'll probably sort out pretty easily. And as so many before me have said-Read your Survival Guide!!
I like pudding.

I like tea.

I like chocolate.

Do you like me?

Your story is my story....go lucky.......I won't be with a camp either......just with my brother.......I don't know which is better because this is my first year.....but obviously the veterans say it doesn't matter..........just experience.....i guess....

That is a voice that you ignore at your peril. But you knew that already.

However for a small retainer, I would be happy to privately advise on optimum theme camp placement.
