On Camps, Themed and Otherwise

Post by Quaestor » Fri Aug 10, 2007 2:29 pm

I have a few questions, I'd much appreciate your help. The few uncontactable people I know going to BM are all in fairly exclusive (or deadline-passed) theme camps, and I'm trying to figure out what to do.

1) Do most people stay in a theme camp or village? What other options are there?
2) How many people camp alone/not with a theme camp or village?
3) What are the advantages of being with a camp? (I know, the community aspect which is so central to the BM experience, but still I must ask)
4) How much do camps normally cost?
5) Even if it's Bring Your Own Food?
6) How did you choose your camp?

1) No. Most people just go by themselves or with friends and find an open spot to set up. Some of these groups are bigger and better organized than some theme camps.
2) Um, a lot? Look at the map - all the area not labeled theme camp is filled with people
3) The big advantage is sharing infrastructure like shower, shade, kitchen, and of course having a family to come "home" to
4) 0-$200 or so
5) Yes
6) I found a project that needed help before the event several years ago and a few of us kept camping together

Thanks! I was under basically the opposite impression for most of those.
