cheapest way to build/buy a common area shade structure

Post by reefhugger » Fri Aug 10, 2007 3:36 pm

..for 10-20 people (i know). were pouring our hearts, minds and monies into our art installation, and have found ourselves without a real camp area. we want to build a little sumpin sumpin for lounging, what is the cheapest structure you can think of? we have shade cloth, sheets, contents, etc etc. we just need a structure that wont blow away and hurt anyone. any input would be so appreciated...we would like to keep it under $150 if possible..

You could try something like this http://www.bweebweebwee.com/tensegrity/ Scale up the size to fit your group. These are super sturdy.

Also check Bob Stahl's site:

His photo of the DPW shade should be of some interest.

Bob is certainly a master of the art. If not the best definitely in the top 5 for websites about shade.

OK, simplest and cheapest? Put the RVs and trucks in a circle around your campsite and stretch a white tarp over them. $200 for the tarp and the ropes and you're there. Maybe add a pole in the center.

Cheapest? Spend the money on a spool of 3/8 truck rope and scrounge the rest.
