Camo netting questions
Has anyone used this stuff to cover their structures? Any tips? I have a ton of the finnish varient(tons of little squares glued onto a net) but want to make sure it won't moop.
I tried shaking it really hard, I tried yanking squares off....It all seems to stay . Anything else I should do?
Thanks

Cammo Nets
I had previously used the Swedish Camos (White), but from year to year they just do not hold up along the seams...
The Army Style Cammo Nets work awesome On-Playa, allowing airflow as well as protection from the dust...
From year to year I have not cleaned the Cammo nets, just a good shake will do.

The Swedish tyvek based nets are really good and reflecting IR and UV. If you can find it at a reasonable price it's worth it. Even though my 3 year old one is almost completely separated from the end seams I just run a length of rope through a series of holes near the edge and it's worked out for me. Eventually it'll be too bad to use but it's served me well.
The US style cammo netting is very rugged and will take lots of abuse. I'm willing to bet that most military surplus cammo netting will be up to the job without falling apart at the first breeze. They were built to be used in the field under harsh conditions unlike your everyday blue tarp.

Whatever you do though, don't start cutting it in half to avoid this. If doubling the shade results in a 60% increase, then halving it will result in a 60% decrease, so if you cut it into quarters they'll actually MAGNIFY the sun by 60%!phil wrote:Yeah, but you gotta watch out for that. If you've got 60% shade and double it, you end up with 120% shade, and you get ice on the inside of the netting.AntiM wrote:Our pieces of camo netting are large enough to double up, presto, nice thick shade.

What! You want an _answer_ to your _question_? We got _math_ going on here, okay?Saturnine0 wrote:So I should be cool then?(well, in the moopy sense..if not the shady sense)
I was about to strap it to the roof of the range rover, see about wind!
It's a little scary, I don't think I have anymore projects after this. It's really almost time to go.

Hehe, and some great math it is! Actually, I don't really want an answer...Just want reassurance that I won't create a moop disaster on the playa. And I want to be DONE with all this prepping crap.
I'm a virgin and all this seems rather overwhelming, ESPECIALLY with no real understanding of the conditions. I've come to the conclusion that you don't really have to be prepared for everything...just what's likely to happen.
But as a virgin you have no idea what's likely to happen..so far:
Constant zero visibility dust storms,
Dust so deep you can't ride a bike,
Civil unrest(protest at the man)
crucified by rebar
Run over by art cars/bikes
burnt to a crisp at the man burn
playa (insert random bit of anatomy)
Being raped by rabbits in a bizarre cult like ritual.
turning into disneyland ::shudder::
I'll settle for knowing I won't create a disaster and having enough water to drink. Oh, and maybe eating.
Thanks for the answers.....and keep up the excellent maths.

> Constant zero visibility dust storms,
Happens every year. Worst was 2000 (in my very umble opinion - some people think 2001 was worse)
> Dust so deep you can't ride a bike,
Has happened. Worse was when the playa was like broken pavement; I don't remember what year that was. The surface was compared to the top of a pan of brownies.
> Civil unrest(protest at the man)
Never happen. Burners are too nice and too relaxed for real unrest. Go to Hot Summer Nights in Reno for civil unrest and lack of civility.
> crucified by rebar
Happens to someone every year. See mdmf's post from Aug 16 at

Sorry, but this has happened, too. Just don't jump in to the ashes after the Man and the Temple burn though, and you'll be safe.

Will happen to you.

Only if you're lucky.

Already happened. :-> Last year was the last good year.

You haven't started prepping for next year _yet_?

I was in Twin City Surplus in Reno last week and they had a bin of desert military camo netting for $ 129.00 I believe it was a 10 x 20'ish. You might want to call them see of there still avaliable & perhpas reserve one over the phone. They looked good and NOT a bad price at all.
don't forget to floss
Re: Buying camo netting
Sportsmansguide.com and Cheaperthandirt.com should have something pretty cheap. Some surplus stores are overcharging folks.. and its a lil late to try to snag something off of ebay.wisey wrote:where is the best place to pick up camo netting?

Sat: You will be fine with your camo net.. using a vehicle as one of yer anchor points will only be better.
Ebay Hands down! My roomie picked up a lot of it this year. If you can, wait for an auction where you dont get in a bidding war. Keep in mind for next year... This is what we have and it works GREAT!
