Anyone use a Hexayurt successfully with thinner panels...
.. than the Thermax HD?? I have Polyshield panels.
I used 1" thick thermax. The best person to ask about what to use is Vinay Gupta at http://www.hexayurt.com
It is his design I used for my hexayurt. Very comfortable and almost dust proof.

You could try it. It might take a bit longer for ground heat to dissipate but the idea is to keep sunlight and ambient heat away so the ground surface/floor will reach the temperature of the cold wet layer some foot deep. At longest by day three this should be working. Then the ground will cool the inside. Given this a thinner layer might work but dropping the roof a bit and making it wider might help.

We built one this year too using the 1" material. Based on this experience and how fragile I thought the 1" panels were, I certainly wouldn't attempt using thinner materials--especially on the playa where the winds can be viscious.

Indeed, winds are usually viscous.
