Shade Structure?

Post by Chentelle » Mon Aug 04, 2008 9:05 am

This weekend we bought our tent (two virgin burners) but now we need to figure out a shade structure for it. The tent is 11x12 and about 6ft tall. The only structure I have seen that looks promising is the tunnel-like systems. The only problem with these is that we cannot transport full length pvc and would need to cut them to 5' lengths with connectors to get them to 10'. Will these still curve to make the structure arches or do we need to think of some other method?

Hi, Chentelle,

Could you give specifics on your planned shade? Why you need 5-foot lengths? People may have a lot of workarounds for you but can't tell what you need to work around.

We were thinking of something similar to http://www.chromatest.net/Lovemonkey/ We could use 10ft lengths but would need to devise a way to strap them to the roof of my CRV the 5ft lengths would fit inside without issue

I notice that, as in This is Spinal Tap,
This particular plan has a 10 x 12" footprint
Will that fit your tent?

They make curved pvc.
I used joined pieces last year.
At least, I think they were curved?

They were bent in a 180.
Held together by friction only.
Worked dandy.

there are examples of how to make it longer it will stay 12' wide but the length can be increased by adding additional ribs to the sructure we would probably have at least a 20x12 if not 25x12
