Camping with a large tent?

Post by jennytoo » Fri Jun 26, 2009 12:12 pm

Last year was my first time, and I was part of an existing theme camp.

This year, I'm part of a larger group (4-6 people), half of us have been 1 or 2 years, and half haven't. We're planning on sharing a small military surplus tent (16'). We aren't an assigned theme camp (right now, it's enough just to get a camp together).

This leads to the question ... the tent is 16' diameter, and requires guy lines. From reading documentation, the actual footprint including guy lines is around 40-45' diameter.

Will we be able to find room to set the tent up without any problem, or is that asking too much for a camp that isn't preassigned?

Looking forward to going back.

Yes. there will be plenty of room.

If you arrive at night dont set it up till morning..

spread out.. theres always lots of room in the middle of the blocks..

make sure you secure it very very well!!!

That's good to know. I recall there being space last year, but ... I wasn't looking, either. Until the tent is setup, we'll be really cramped (6 people in two cars) so may time arrival for the morning.

A little worried about securing it, but I know these types of tents are used all the time and are very study - the camp I was in last year had two larger ones.

set it up at night if you wish!... just be sure you have plenty of space around you and if you can, be sure you arent setting it up in a place someone is planning on setting up their own huge tent...

it wont be sturdy until you stake it securely to the ground..

...

you can always park the car for the night an wander out into the city and find a empty couch/spot to sleep the night off....

just remember where you parked ;-P

LOL, "Hey didn't we park near the RV that said El Monte on it?"
What other people think about you is none of your business.

Oh, finding camp shouldn't be a problem. We'll just camp near the giant orange pylon! You can see that from anywhere on the playa...
