Searching for the ultimate blanket
Searching for the ultimate blanket
I'm really sensitive to that horrible chalky playa dust feel, especially on certain fabrics like fleece or flannel. I much prefer to sleep with things of nylon/sateen texture. I have a sweet sleeping bag, but I'm looking for a blanket version of this, hopefully one that can pack up just as small. Does this exist? like a high tech camping blanket? (its for 2 people)
I will resort to a comforter and duvet, but I'm not thrilled about the pack volume.
I will love you forever if you can find this =]

Have you tried a very high thread count cotton sheet?skinnay wrote:I'm really sensitive to that horrible chalky playa dust feel, especially on certain fabrics like fleece or flannel. A blanket version of a sleeping bag? Um, unzip it and spread it out flat?skinnay wrote:I'm really sensitive to that horrible chalky playa dust feel, especially on certain fabrics like fleece or flannel. You're so sensitive to playa dust you need a special sleepy binky?
Oh for the love of .....
Ok, on the off chance you are serious...
Make yourself a sleep sack. Simply get a couple of your preferred sateen sheets, sew together with machine along three edges. You and bunky slip into sack, then simple pile on whatever you need to keep warm on top of that.
Buy a giant ziploc bag (available at home improvement stores) and make sure you stuff it inside each day when you leave the tent. Then put plastic drop cloth over tent contents when you leave.
That way each night is comfy.

I've always just absolutely hated the feel of chalk. I'm plenty used to the mockery from the burning man superstars, but I just don't like the way it feels on the flannel of my old sleeping bags. I know, I know, I don't loooovvveee playa dust and bring some home to jerk off with for the next 51 weeks. I know this makes me sooo uncool and a total noob. Why don't you go bitch to the thousands of people in RVs and show them how awesome you are?Lord Of Ruin wrote:Is this a troll post?skinnay wrote:I'm really sensitive to that horrible chalky playa dust feel, especially on certain fabrics like fleece or flannel. It's no so much that we "love the way it feels."skinnay wrote:

It's just that when we went to camp as kids we actually listened out there in the mountains when they said "Buck up little camper and quit the fuckin' whinin'".
Okay, maybe you went to a different camp than I did.

Pay attention, skinnay. Token speaks truth: SILK. Sew a loose sack of silk for a sleeping bag liner, then when not sleeping stick it in a ziplock bag.
Time's short, go to the fabric store and get to work!
If lazy, fumble-fingered or possessed of more cash than time go to a store and buy a sillk "dreamsack".

You can buy silk sleeping bag liners. You can also buy very light, like a light blanket sleeping bags--more like sleeping blankets. The combination of the silk liner and sleeping blanket was great. I don't remember where I got them, but I bought them specially for a camping trip to Hawaii.
