Different/same camp areas year to year?

Post by Tiahaar » Tue Jun 08, 2004 11:55 am

So I'm going back for trip #2 this year (CAN HARDLY WAIT) and wondering...apart from placed theme camps...do you regulars tend to camp in the same general areas of the city or move around year-to-year? I loved the neighborhood I was in last year, towards the outer edges of 8:30

So if The Man is precisely set over the same magic spot as last year and the city is surveyed out to the same map theoretically I could GPS right to the very plot of playa occupied a year ago and be perfectly aligned. Technology sure is grand. I cannot be the only one who thinks this would be neat! And a head start on remembering how to get home! But change and random throw-a-dart-lets-camp-Here is fun too...

I prefer the same hood.. between 8 and 8:30 about 5 or 6 streets from the Esplanade. Been camping there for years. love the location, returning neighbors and "chill" space.

Figure that GPS will get you within a couple hundred feet of the same clock location, but no guarantees.

Me?

I'm staking my tent right under the Burning Man!

It's gotta be the best seat in the house and hottest!

Lightning never strikes in the same place anyway!

Have a good burn and don't worry!

Homeland sercurity is in effect.

Well, it's a good idea to expand your horizons, especially your first few years. One of the great things about Black Rock City is the way camp location influences the experience. It's true that each block is different, and somehow most blocks stay roughly the same each year. So you may end up back at 8:30 eventually if that's where your heart is... but until you know that for sure, I would say try 5:30, or maybe even 3:00. Ya nevah know.

In this seal's opinion, you lucked out, 'cause 8:30 is THE best block in BRC. LOTS of seals, NO orcas. Even though Pinky's is gone this year, hopefully we'll all step it up foshizzle.
