500 pieces of PVC
Gift them to a irrigation supply company to turn into nipples.
And I just have to ask. Why the hell would you save 2 foot 1" PVC? Thats like saving a condom.

If i had 500 pieces of 1" x2' polyvinyl chloride pipe this is what I would do.
With some cord, string 6 of them together to form a Tetrahedron.
http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Tetrahedron.html
You'll have to experiment with tying the knots to keep them together. You might be able to take a piece of string shorter than 6 feet or the length of 3 struts, tie a loop or eye at each end. String it through then use a zip tie to pull the two loops together, then tuck the zip tie into the pipe. Just an idea, you'll need to play around with it.
You can group 4 of these together to make a bigger Tetrahedron, you could stack them all kinds of ways into towers, archways....
You could build an Icosahedron
http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Icosahedron.html
it would look cool to paint the Icosahedron with one color then add 20 pieces connecting from the vertices to the center.
Each triangle on the outside of your Icosahedron could have three Tetrahedron added to it to make an even bigger Icosahedron. I'd have to do the math but you might have enough for a third layer and if you do then you would have a 12' diameter sphere, all from trash.
This is what I would do, but chances are that if I got started I'd branch off after playing around with it.
I don't throw anything away either. There is a use for it all, it just takes the right person. The 30' truncated Icosahedron dome that I'm working on was all made from scrap.

In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, an ancient race of people... the Druids. No one knows who they were or what they were doing...
