Recommended tarp tape?

What tape do you use to attach tarps and other materials together on-playa? A bit of research suggests that bidirectional filament tape or high-temperature duct tape will hold up well in the playa heat, but I haven't found a good comparison between the two. Does anyone have experience to know which would be better at holding seams of 20 mil vinyl tarp used as the covering on a dome? Is one stronger than the other? What about better at adhering to flexible vinyl materials? The dome is intended not just for shade but for actual sleeping/housing on playa.

While you're at it, do you have any other advice about making the most of adhesive? I've read that it could be helpful to clean off areas with alcohol before applying the adhesive so it is gripping to a clean, dry surface. Any other tips/tricks?

it's unclear what exactly you're trying to do. you're taping tarps together to each other or taping them to the frame of the dome?

The current plan is to tape them to each other [b]and[/b] the wood. I am most concerned about the tarp on tarp seams on the outside that will be directly exposed to the sunlight.

I use tesa tape, the white kind with the tan coating.


It's double sided and stronger than HELL.


But EXPENSIVE. We used a roll that was, ahem, overlooked at my boyfriends job.

It's industrial strength, and MEANS it. If it sticks to your skin too long, it will rip the skin off. It will rip paint of down to the drywall. It is hell incarnate. And I love it.

Thanks for the suggestion, turnip! I looked around briefly and wasn't able to find tesa tape easily accessible in small quantities, but I did find that some 3M extreme bifilament tape is recommended as a equivalent to a good tesa tape option on http://hexayurttape.com/hexayurt-tape-information, so I went ahead with that.

Just a few weeks left and I am nowhere near ready - time to hustle!
