Where was it that I heard about all the sex toys/bondage equipment that the folks in Singapore buy...?
er, I'm still looking for a good camping bed/something/someone to sleep on.
Ya know, I used to have plans for a collapsible bed an SCA person posted on the 'Web. I should go look for those. If I still have them, they are probably with the plans for building a yurt. (Of course, I have no idea what ever became of THOSE!

BAS,
Since you will obviously be sleeping alone. Buy a couple of ensolite pads and a sleeping bag. You'll be fine.

We have a King size platform we made from the Playtech Plans. On that we put those two inch foam folding mats from Costco. On top of that a feather mattress and top and bottom sheets. Lots of pillows and fluffy down blankets. ZZzzzzzzz...

Thanks for all the replies, and the thread drift is certainly interesting... and kinda what I was expecting to come out of this thread haha
I'm travelling from overseas, so can't bring too much stuff in, but I do like the camp bed / cot idea, and our camp will have hammocks - can you sleep in these properly?

Sir David Attenborough tells hilarious stories about spending the night in a hammock. I figure, if he can't make it work then I should not even try.
Afternoon siesta, though, that I can do.

I can't imagine sleeping in a hammock for a week. You can't stretch out, you sleep in one position every night
And it's 55F at night! Sounds too cold for sleeping outside.
Good sleeping bag is light enough but warm and you sleep on the flat surface

Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
The Liberty Mountain Swedish Folding Cot is suitable for 220 pounds (under the "specs" tab on the site). It weighs 25 lbs. In my opinion, it could be set up using just arm strength and the ground, as a brace . . . undo the latch, unfold, push the legs out at an angle. I am guessing you are as strong as me, Fishy? If not stronger?) The mattress is tucked underneath the cot when folded, and would have to be moved to the other side.
Check the legs each night before you crash, in case they get kicked in a bit being jostling during the day. (I like to wedge things under it, as insurance, but it's never been necessary).
(REI has other cots too. I also note WalMart.com has some too, though none currently with mattresses. They use to have one very similar to the REI model for just $44.)

Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
We did two cots like this.
It was a pain to assemble. The hope was that they'd fold up quickly, giving us space to move around in the hexayurt. This was not the case. Not that the space issue was a big deal. The main problem is that the ladyfriend and I were separated by a aluminum bar between us the entire time. This limited cuddles and hanky panky.
I was promised that there was to be in excess of 5 cuddles, and as many as 1 hankies and or pankies.
The dealer has not responded to my request for refunds on these grounds.
If I had it to do over again... and I do... I'll probably be looking at two of the flat cots that I saw posted earlier by Savannah. Push 'em together and put a blanket across them.

Gotcha covered:

Cuddling and canoodling might be possible on two cots (or a double cot, see google), but if you are going for a gold medal of some kind, you need a mattress.

I'm 180...holds up just fine..and very comfortable. I add a wool blanket between the "springs" and mattress for additional comfort. IMO easy to set up, too.theCryptofishist wrote:How much weight will it take and how easy is it to put up?dragonpilot wrote:Hee hee...this is exactly the same model cot I have...luv it!Savannah wrote:I am overly attached to this cot:

Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
To be honest, Trish had the double air mattress all to herself. Queen sized and she builds her little nest with her fan and mask. The down side of an air mattress for two is movement. She sleeps 8 to 10 hours a day.
I sleep 3 or 4 hours per day on the playa. Usually from light on the Eastern Horizon until I need to pee. We had this futon mattress for one of those cot/chaise lounge things for whoever might want it. I ended up just throwing the thing on the floor of the tent and crashing with earplugs. I do not recall any discomfort whatsoever,,,, although by the time I got there, I was totally exhausted,,,, or shit faced,,,,, or both.
