tent shade?

Post by magnetichf » Mon Aug 09, 2004 5:52 pm

one of my goals for this year is to come up with a strategy for shading my tent, so that i might actually be able to (gasp) sleep in on occassion. does anyone have any experience in building basic, effective, wind-resistant tent shade structures for small to medium (2-4 person) tents?

thx,
eric

We found that the EZ up canopies that you can get from Costco for $200 (at least in our area...like the one in El Cerrito, CA) work well. You probably want two extra side panels to shade you from the side the sun rises & falls. They are not cheap, but very effective, durable and super-easy to put up (hence the name). http://www.costco.com/Browse/Productgro ... h=114*4144*

Have found that an EZ Up under cammo netting has been pretty good. Though airflow is what seems to best for keeping cool, so no solid walls are ideal. A mesh cot or hammock under a shade structure are great for long naps.
Be the change you seek in the world.
