Shade Cloth - Home Depot?

Post by tekket » Wed Aug 05, 2015 12:09 pm

Hey all,

Has anyone playa tested the shade cloth available from Home Depot?
Like this one:

I've found a few links to some other shelter/greenhouse sites people purchased from, but since I'm flying in.. it seems cheaper and easier to order from HomeDepot and pickup when i arrive in Reno

other sites:

http://www.catalogclearance.com/

We are looking just to cover the sides of our shade structure on the east and south sides.

So, any hands on feedback from the homedepot stuff? Will it survive?

The home depot stuff is incredibly strong.

You could make a hammock out of it!!!

That is raw shade cloth and not very wide. How are you going to support it?
I read too fast. Side application is perfect for that. You might even be able to zip tie it on.

I am a big fan of one of the suppliers you listed for their grommeted Aluminet shade cloth which you could ship to UPS pickup, your hotel or a package store. But you are fast approaching the ordering deadlines to get what you need before the burn.

Enjoy your burn!

They're gonna hang it on the side, so 6' ought to be wide enough.

I've used the shade cloth from HD before and it held up quite well for many trips to the playa. I just used a grommit kit and folded over the corners to give it a little extra strength.

Yep, we've used it for years and it holds up great. Get some of the plastic grommets that they sell next to the shade cloth, a hammer, and a bottle of gorilla glue. Figure out your spacing on the grommets, add a ring of gorilla glue to the bottom side of the grommet, pound it closed with the hammer and then cut out any remaining shade cloth from the middle hole, and then cover the whole thing with a little masking tape while it dries so the GG doesn't leak out and stick your shade cloth together.
