Where to camp coming in wed

Post by gateway » Mon Aug 24, 2015 9:26 am

My buddy and I cant get out to the Playa till Wed morning and will be taking my jeep with a lot of equipment (shade, water, tents, other stuff). Whats the suggested area that we could park and set up our small tiny camp?

You'll be given a map at the gate that will indicate where the pre-placed camps are and where open camping is.
You're free to pick a place anywhere in open camping.

Drive in, Find an open spot, ask the people near the spot if its available and start setting up. That late in the week you shouldn't have any issues, just ask before setting up in a seemingly available spot.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Nope. :) Walk-in camping is for folks who want to park their cars on the very outer Eastern edge and drag their stuff a few dozen (or a few hundred yards) beyond civilization in order to have the greatest chance of peace and quiet. It's not a late arrival thing.

The outer streets should still have ample room for you, closer than Walk-In.

The 'camping' areas between streets is quite wide. When you drive down the streets and all the streetside places are taken keep an eye out for large empty spaces behind them. There are usually several 'driveways' in and out of the landlocked areas. I know on G and H there is always unused acreage behind our camp. Pull to the side and walk the neighborhood. Talk to everyone.

Download the iheart radio app and start listening to BMIR next week. They provide frequent updates about playa conditions, Gate Road, and capacity/locations.
